What you see... vs What I see...
What you see
A Draft EHCP.
π What I see
β Missing needs
β Missing provision
β Vague wording
β Missing recommendations
β Opportunities to strengthen the plan
β Whether the evidence actually supports what's being requested
It's not about making the EHCP longer.
It's about making it stronger.

π **Success Story**
Sharing another fantastic outcome achieved this year.
Every case is unique, but every success means a child is one step closer to receiving the support they need.
Congratulations to this family! ππ

Mediation can be helpful but it doesn't guarantee the outcome you want.
Sometimes further evidence or an appeal is still needed.
Comment your experience of mediation.

Why do I sometimes recommend a private report?
Not because NHS or Local Authority reports are "wrong"βthey often just have a different focus.
For example:
π§ NHS OT reports may focus on movement or independence rather than detailed sensory needs in school.
π¬ SALT reports may assess functional language but not always explore the more subtle communication differences affecting learning.
Sometimes a specialist private report helps fill those gaps and provides clearer recommendations for an EHCP.
π‘ If you're considering a private assessment, always check the therapist has experience supporting EHCPs and appeals.
Unsure whether you need another report or which one?

**π
Annual Review Reminder**
An Annual Review isn't just about saying...
β
"Everything is going well."
or
β "We need more support."
The purpose of an Annual Review is to review your child's progress **and** gather updated professional advice where needed to inform any amendments to the EHCP.
If your child's needs have changed, or the current provision isn't working, updated advice from professionals such as an Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech & Language Therapist or Communication Interaction Team can be invaluable in explaining **what has changed and why the EHCP should change too.**
π₯ **Share this with someone preparing for an Annual Review.**

A diagnosis explains **what** your child has.
It doesn't automatically explain **what educational provision** they require.
That's why recommendations matter.
Has this surprised you? Let me know in the comments.

**π« EHCP Myth Monday**
**"If I ask for it, it has to go in the EHCP."**
Every week I receive requests like:
β "Can you add 1:1?"
β "I have to have Speech & Language Therapy"
β "School said this would help."
β "I've got lots of emails to support it."
The first question I ask is...
**π What professional evidence recommends it?**
The strongest EHCPs aren't built on what we want, they're built on evidence that explains **why** the provision is needed.
π₯ **Tag a parent who is currently reviewing an EHCP.**

One sentence can completely change how enforceable an EHCP becomes.
I don't simply add what parents ask for. I compare every request against the professional evidence and strengthen vague wording into clear, specific provision.
