Cheynes Training is looking for passionate and experienced professionals to join our education team.

We are currently recruiting for two positions:
• Hairdressing Educator / Assessor – based at our Exeter Academy
• Barbering Educator / Assessor – working across our Exeter and Plymouth Academies

About the role
You will support apprentices through high-quality training and assessment, helping them to develop their technical skills, confidence and professionalism within the industry.

What we’re looking for
• Experienced hairdressers or barbers with a passion for education
• Strong communication and mentoring skills
• Assessor qualification preferred but not essential – support available for the right candidate
• Must be working in a salon at least once per week
• A positive role model who wants to make a difference

Barbering Look & Learn – Plymouth Academy

We’re excited to welcome Matthew Pedlar to our Plymouth Academy for an exclusive barbering Look & Learn session.

Monday 13th April
Plymouth Academy

Matthew brings over 14 years of experience in the industry as a qualified hairdresser and barber. Currently self-employed at Jeast Cuts Barbers in Newquay, Cornwall, he has built a strong reputation for his work both in the shop and on stage.

Having delivered multiple Look & Learn sessions and showcased his skills at Barber Connect for Bluebeards Revenge, Matthew will be sharing his approach to modern barbering, techniques, and real industry insight.

This is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and develop your barbering skills alongside a respected professional in the industry.

This session is open to our apprentices, with salon teams also welcome to attend.

EXCLUSIVE LOOK & LEARN WITH MICHAEL GRAY

We are excited to welcome Michael Gray to our Exeter Academy for an unmissable education experience.

Multi award-winning, London & International Celebrity Hairstylist, Michael brings over 20 years of industry expertise—specialising in red carpet hair, photographic styling, content creation, and education.

This is your chance to learn directly from one of the most on-trend stylists in the industry, gain insight into high-end styling techniques, and elevate your skills.

Location: Exeter Academy
Date: Monday 20th April
Time: 10:30am – approx. 2–3pm

This session is exclusively for our apprentices, with salon partners welcome to bring members of their team to experience the day alongside them.

What an incredible day this week, with Dr Teresa Wood, Trichologist and Owner of Chameleon Hair

A huge thank you to Teresa for delivering such an insightful and engaging session for our apprentices—it was truly inspiring

Our apprentices spent the day deep diving into trichology, scalp health and chemical rearranging—building knowledge that will elevate their understanding and client consultations #
Morning session highlights:
– The importance of health & safety and consultation
– Understanding the pH scale and how products affect the hair structure
– Hair growth cycle in detail
– Chemical straightening vs keratin smoothing treatments (what to choose and when)

Afternoon session:
– Live demonstrations of a scalp scrub and Brazilian treatment
– Exploring hair under microscopes
– Identifying healthy hair vs damaged hair (smooth + reflective vs hollow + compromised)
– Understanding follicle health and scalp condition
– Analysing hair strands to spot signs of past illness or trauma

A truly eye-opening day that will directly impact how our apprentices approach hair, scalp care and consultation

We’re excited to welcome Alex Walker back to Exeter Academy for an inspiring Look & Learn session for our apprentices and salon partners.
