🌟 SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD 🌟

A huge congratulations to Isobel “Izzy” Bruce from Attic Hair, Plymouth, who has been presented with a Cheynes Training Special Recognition Award!

Izzy is currently completing her Level 3 Hairdressing Apprenticeship, and her commitment, creativity and professionalism continue to impress.

Her assessor, Abbie, nominated Izzy after seeing the incredible preparation she put into her recent photoshoot. She arrived with carefully selected props, clothing and everything she needed to bring her ideas to life — meeting every aspect of the brief and going above and beyond with her attention to detail.

What really stands out about Izzy is her self-motivation and quiet confidence. She simply gets on with what needs to be done, works incredibly hard and consistently produces work to a high standard without looking for recognition or praise.

Her passion for hairdressing shines through in the quality and creativity of her work, and she continues to achieve the goals and expectations set for her.

Izzy, this recognition is thoroughly deserved. Keep doing what you’re doing — we’re excited to see where your Level 3 journey takes you!

Learner Spotlight – Edith Jones

A huge well done to our talented apprentice Edith Jones from Energy Hair, Exeter, who absolutely smashed her colour training session this week!

Working alongside Cheynes educator Leah Brice, Edith demonstrated fantastic progress, confidence and a real willingness to develop her colour knowledge and practical skills. It’s brilliant to see her growing in confidence and continuing to build the foundations of a successful career in hairdressing.

Keep up the amazing work, Edith – we’re all proud of how far you’ve come, and we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!

Another fantastic teaching session at Meraki Hair in Exeter with our apprentice, Ellie.

The focus was building confidence with short graduation techniques while encouraging creativity by introducing razoring through one side of the haircut to create texture and individuality.

As Ellie gets closer to completing her apprenticeship, it’s been brilliant to see her confidence, technical ability and creativity continue to grow. She’s worked incredibly hard throughout her journey, and we’re really proud of the progress she’s making.

A huge thank you to the team at Meraki Hair for their continued support in helping Ellie develop into a talented stylist. We can’t wait to see what she achieves over the coming months.

Two days. New skills. New confidence.

Over the last two days, Leanne has immersed herself in the art of traditional barber shaving, developing the knowledge, techniques and confidence needed to deliver professional shaving services.

From consultation and preparation through to full shaves, partial shaves and line-ups, she has worked hard to complete the practical assessments required for the qualification.

A fantastic achievement and a pleasure to teach throughout the course. Congratulations, Leanne!

A Proud Day for Our Exeter Apprentices

Today we’re celebrating four talented apprentices who have successfully completed their End Point Assessment and achieved their Hair Professional qualification.

Over the course of their apprenticeships, these young professionals have shown dedication, resilience and a genuine passion for our industry. They have embraced every opportunity to learn, develop and refine their skills, and it has been an absolute pleasure to be part of their journey.

These girls have been a credit to themselves, their salons and Cheynes Training. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment to becoming outstanding hair professionals has been evident throughout, and they fully deserve the success they have achieved today.

A huge thank you to the salon owners, managers and mentors who have supported, encouraged and developed these apprentices every step of the way. Your commitment to nurturing future talent plays a vital role in achievements such as this.

We would also like to recognise and thank our Cheynes educators, whose passion, expertise and unwavering support help learners grow in confidence and reach their full potential. The success of our apprentices is a reflection of the strong partnerships between learners, employers and educators.

Today is a celebration of everything these apprentices have achieved and the exciting careers that lie ahead of them.

We’re Hiring: Educators / Assessors – Hairdressing & Barbering
Locations: Exeter & Plymouth Academies

Cheynes Training is looking for passionate and experienced professionals to join our education team.

We are currently recruiting for two positions:
• Hairdressing Educator / Assessor – based at our Exeter Academy
• Barbering Educator / Assessor – working across our Exeter and Plymouth Academies

About the role
You will support apprentices through high-quality training and assessment, helping them to develop their technical skills, confidence and professionalism within the industry.

What we’re looking for
• Experienced hairdressers or barbers with a passion for education
• Strong communication and mentoring skills
• Assessor qualification preferred but not essential – support available for the right candidate
• Must be working in a salon at least once per week
• A positive role model who wants to make a difference

We’re excited to welcome Matthew Pedlar to our Plymouth Academy for an exclusive barbering Look & Learn session.

Monday 13th April
Plymouth Academy

Matthew brings over 14 years of experience in the industry as a qualified hairdresser and barber. Currently self-employed at Jeast Cuts Barbers in Newquay, Cornwall, he has built a strong reputation for his work both in the shop and on stage.

Having delivered multiple Look & Learn sessions and showcased his skills at Barber Connect for Bluebeards Revenge, Matthew will be sharing his approach to modern barbering, techniques, and real industry insight.

This is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and develop your barbering skills alongside a respected professional in the industry.

This session is open to our apprentices, with salon teams also welcome to attend.
