🌞🌑 SOLAR ECLIPSE OVER PLYMOUTH TONIGHT! 🌑🌞

Tonight, Wednesday 12th August, Plymouth gets an incredible partial solar eclipse, with around 95% of the Sun covered!

⏰ Plymouth timings:
🌞 Eclipse begins: 6:19pm
🌑 Maximum eclipse: 7:16pm
🌞 Eclipse ends: 8:10pm

📍 Where should you watch?

You need somewhere with a clear view towards the WEST, as the Sun will be getting quite low in the sky.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Jennycliff is NOT recommended tonight. Plymouth Astronomical Society originally planned to observe there but moved because of the British Firework Championships and associated road closures.

🔭 Want to watch with the experts?
Plymouth Astronomical Society will be at Lowery/Lowry Cross near Yelverton from 5pm, with solar telescopes and a limited number of free solar viewing glasses.

If you’re staying in Plymouth, find an open location with an unobstructed western horizon and get there well before 7pm.

⚠️ NEVER look directly at the Sun.
Normal sunglasses are NOT safe. Only use proper certified solar-eclipse glasses or a safe indirect viewing method.

This is a big one — at maximum, only a tiny portion of the Sun will remain uncovered from Plymouth!

Maximum eclipse: 7:16pm — don’t miss it!
