Today was Pen*sula Judo squad pilgrimage to our usual fighting grounds know as Bideford for the Westcountry Green Belt and Under competition.

Up first was the young lady of the squad from Newquay, Ava, she was placed in a group as the lightest fighter by 4kg and giving away nearly 6kg, she stepped up showing no nerves and took her place on the podium with a well earned bronze medal.

Coach Jason then had a hot seat shuffle running between two mat chairs for the boys to make their mark.

Alfie got the off to a winning start with a quick foot sweep and off the mat in under 60 seconds.
CJ was up next in a large group of 6 young men, coming home with his very first win and place on the podium in Bronze medal.

Dieter stepped up for a best of 3 and was showing early strength with his ura nage and went on to win all 3 Contests and a shiny new gold.

Alfie continued to show dominace in his group to come home with Gold, which left Brooklyn in another best of 3, fighting in his first tournament he showed no sign of nerves and fought like a vintage player, honing his skills with a very favorable win on his third fight and coming home with his first Silver medal.

Once again, all the students showed great resilience and determination in stepping on the Tatami and placing their hearts on their sleeves, and coming home with some heavy silverware, well done Team Peninsula!!

Tonight we celebrate an incredible achievement as Tyla earns her black belt 👊👊👊

Years of hard work, perseverance, discipline and determination have led to this moment — proof of the Japanese proverb:

「継続は力なり」 (Keizoku wa chikara nari)
“Persistence becomes strength.”

A black belt is not earned alone but rather as a community: everyone Tyla has practiced with and coached has contributed to her momentous achievement 🫶🫶🫶
