We’ve been at the equality conferences in Manchester for the past two days. Lots of lively debate and important motions passed. We discussed the importance of solidarity in tackling the exhaustion that comes from fighting discrimination and using our privilege for good.
Main takeaways?
- Equality needs to be something that’s embedded in everything we do, not tacked on or tick boxed
-Autonomy is something we can gain through supporting one another
-Collective resistance works!

UCU City College Plymouth was proud to organise an event in support of White Ribbon today in the college's SU. White Ribbon is the UK’s leading charity engaging men and boys to end violence against women and girls.

The event was organised by our rep Jakki Burrows which engaged students across the college community. Level 1 Health, Social Care and Childcare students volunteered to run the event and Skills Development students made ribbons and the tree.

The event was honoured with a visit by the local MP for Plymouth, Sutton and Devonport - the very decent human being Luke Pollard.

Massive thank you to all who attended and showed support for this hugely important cause.

A breakthrough! Our employer has agreed to talks with ACAS to try and resolve our dispute. It's nice to have something even slightly positive to share after a long hard slog through this strike. Hopefully we will get some sensible outcomes from these talks. UCU - University and College Union

Day 11 😠 Our Employer is not listening to us so we will stand strong. Negotiations are about two sides working together to reach an agreement. There will undoubtedly be some compromise on both sides to get to this point. This does not mean putting out a bowl of yoghurt and saying cheer up, stop being a mood hoover. Let's get some grownups around the table please! UCU - University and College Union

Great turnout at the twilight meeting there. I think the memory of frying sausages and voting to continue strike action whilst all the while trying to channel out the madness of a four year old pre-tea will live with me forever. Anyway, bring it on. We're not done yet. The Employer may choose to ignore us but we can still make a racket. Bring the noise tomorrow! See you on the picket line ✊ UCU - University and College Union

We go again. Negotiations are still not getting anywhere as the employer refuses to budge. Not sure how doing absolutely nothing translates into doing everything possible to find a solution but then perhaps we have a different perspective on language.
Anyway, see you all on the picket line next Friday. UCU - University and College Union

Our colleagues in HE have just smashed their vote and will be going on strike.
Does anyone else get the feeling that we're on the cusp of some big shift in this country. Finally the working class have turned and said Enough is Enough!
