Last clinical skills till placement next week 😃 👩🏾⚕️ 📕
So today we learned how to do:
*Venepuncture
*Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
* Performing and Interpreting Urinalysis
- Venapuncture is the collection of blood from a vein. It is most often done for laboratory testing.
Most of the time, blood is drawn from a vein located on the inside of the elbow or the back of the hand, before anything else make sure that:
* The site is cleaned with germ-killing medicine (antiseptic).
* An elastic band is put around the upper arm to apply pressure to the area. This makes the vein below it swell with blood.
* A needle is inserted into the vein.
* The blood collects into an airtight vial or tube attached to the needle.
* The elastic band is removed from your arm.
* The needle is taken out and the spot is covered with a bandage to stop bleeding.
- Capillary blood glucose monitoring (CBG) Is one way for people living with diabetes measure and assess their glucose levels. CBG uses a drop of blood from a finger prick to get a blood glucose reading using a blood glucose meter, or glucometer.
- A urinalysis is a test of your urine. It's used to detect and manage a wide range of disorders, such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes. A urinalysis involves checking the appearance, concentration and content of urine. For example, a urinary tract infection can make urine look cloudy instead of clear. Increased levels of protein in urine can be a sign of kidney disease.
