Carefully building allegro with adult ballet dancers -

who are learning for fun, for the challenge, for the exercise, for the love of music - and all the benefits and enjoyment that movement brings 😀

We can use the barre as a tool while developing confidence, then move away, to incorporate the use of arms and head.

Some of us can truly jump, others of us are ‘lilting’

But we’re all trying 🙌

Our fantastic weekend of dance is just over a week away! Join us in partnership with Birnam Arts Ballet School for two days of inspiring classes, expert tuition and plenty of time to dance, learn and enjoy being part of a welcoming dance community.

With around five hours of dancing each day, there’s plenty of opportunity to develop your technique and explore different styles with experienced tutors Emma Gray, Kelly McCole and Liz Rutherford.

A little reminder to the dancers I have been working with in online ballet classes, about the ‘spiralling’ of the legs as you take first position of the feet.

Imagine old-fashioned tights with seams down the back, and rotating the legs outwards, to join those seams together.

‘Zip-lock’ the insides of the legs together, from the top of the heels, to the top of the legs, and push the floor ‘away’, to fully stretch the legs.

Let’s take care to prepare effectively for each exercise 🙌

How do you get into first position?

The start of a new teaching year and I’m extremely proud to renew my Certificate as a Registered Teacher for the Royal Academy of Dance.

As registered teachers we have access to a wonderful range of carefully crafted, exciting syllabi, with logical progression that results in well-rounded dancers.

We have the benefit of a multitude of helpful resources at our fingertips, access to top-level training and professional development, and the support of a ready-made community of like-minded people.

This term I’m teaching a number of RAD syllabi in my online private ballet lessons (alongside ‘free’ classes), and I’m enjoying helping a wide range of dancers (children and adults) to achieve their goals:
