We have had the pleasure of meeting David Berriman, a gentleman who during world war 2 was moved to Peat Rigg. This was when Peat Rigg was a farm with horses, cows and sheep, it grew wheat, oats and barley.

There was no electricity, no gas, no sanitation and no telephone. Lighting was by paraffin lamps, cooking was done over an open fire in the kitchen. There was one toilet in an outbuilding and no barn yet.

Cows were milked daily and lived within the downstairs farmhouse accommodation. The milk put into churns and was then taken to the dairy. During the harvest time, the corn was cut and using a threshing machine separated the grain from the chaff. Local people would gather and help during this busy period.

There were no cars, but there was an early Fordson Tractor. But most of the daily work and transport was done on horseback. Including a horse named Teddy!

What an honour to meet and spend time talking with David.
