Lots of conversation about what happens when the leaves fall from the branches. With a bit of tree climbing and splashing in muddy puddles for good measure!
Due to the storm, we changed our plans from Sutton Bank to Scampston Hall which worked out great in the end. The rain didn't put us off, we enjoyed jumping in puddles then we explored the grounds by doing the Halloween Trail and won a prize at the end. We had a nice hot lunch at home then played Marble Rush in between baking glow in the dark cupcakes!

On Wednesday we filled the wagon with our supplies and took the bus to Malton to meet our friends at Castle Garden Forest School. Obviously, we all had to sing 'wheels on the bus' which was very entertaining for everyone and even the bus driver joined in with the wipers, bell and horn!
Dale and Rose had some exciting activities planned for the children when we arrived -
We made wood cookies by chopping the wood ourselves using a bowsaw then we painted them, added googly eyes and a smile.
Then we made a fire so that we could dry our painted wood cookies to take home later. We did this by chopping the wood ourselves using a big bill hook knife and started the fire. Then we toasted marshmallows and melted chocolate to make smores. There were lots of other things to see and do there like the mud kitchen, hammock, swings and slide. We explored the grounds and looked at the plants and flowers with the binoculars and magnifying glass.
Rose showed us a Jelly Ear Fungus (Auricularia auricula-judae) and some of us were daring enough to touch it! We finished off the session nicely with a hot chocolate warmed on the fire and then said our goodbyes.
We walked into Orchard Fields where we had a picnic then did sauage roly polys before catching the bus back home.
