How do our cells make energy? ⚡️

Our T Level Health students put cellular respiration into action with a hands-on yeast experiment using sugar and balloons! 🧪🎈

By changing the amount of sugar available, students modelled how glucose is broken down to release energy in the form of ATP, while carbon dioxide is produced as a by-product.

🎈 Balloon A — no sugar
🎈 Balloon B — 1 measure of sugar
🎈 Balloon C — 2 measures of sugar

The results gave students a visual way to explore the relationship between glucose availability and energy release — demonstrating that the amount of glucose can affect the rate of respiration.
