Over the last few days in nursery Noah and his friends have been really interested in measuring the worms they have found in the garden.
It was a bit tricky to get an exact measurement, as the worms were very wiggly but once their measurements had been taken, they recorded their findings on to their paper and attempted to write the numeral beside it.
While they were measuring there was lots of lovely mathematical language and vocabulary around size
and length, as well as lots of comparison and estimating.

Love was in the air in nursery last week.
We sent messages home to all of our children about why we loved having them at our nursery and then asked our families to send a message back to nursery about what they loved about their children.
It was so lovely to see the big smiles on everyoneβs faces when we shared the beautiful messages.

Yesterday we visited the clock tower war memorial in Horden Memorial park, to lay our poppies in preparation for the Remembrance parade and ceremony on Sunday. We loved spotting all of the poppies around the village on the way.

Today the children painted poppies on to large pieces of silk to create some wall hangings to commemorate Remembrance Day.

This week we have been thinking about Remembrance Day and the Poppy Appeal. Alyson came in to nursery to talk to the children about her Dad who fought in the war. She brought lots of photographs, war medals and poppy memorabilia to show the children.

Over the last few weeks we have been thinking about Bonfire night, fires and fireworks. In the garden, the children have enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the fire, while learning all about fire safety.
Today we relaxed in the Purple room while we watched our very own firework display projected on to the celing!

This week has been a very special week for some of our friends in nursery as they celebrated Diwali.
Diwali is the "Festival of Lights," a five-day celebration observed by Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains to mark the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. It involves lighting oil lamps called diyas and lanterns, decorating homes, and celebrating with family and friends. It is also a time of new beginnings, often considered the start of the new year.
The children have used clay to create Diyas to light up nursery and have created Rangoli patterns using colourful pasta.
We would like to wish all of our families a very happy Diwali.

Across this first half term the children have been very busy exploring the paint. This week we have looked carefully at some of the colours and patterns on the squashes and gourds around nursery and created some beautiful observational paintings.
