Someone on our 21 Day Accelerator was asked what win they were most proud of so far.

Their answer?

“My family can now speak to me without getting their head bitten off”

Not a weight loss number.

Not a PB.

Not a before & after photo.

Just someone who was running on empty, stressed, going through the motions with no real structure or enjoyment in their day.

3 weeks of showing up, moving their body, having a laugh & having something that’s theirs.

And the people closest to them noticed before they did.

That’s the power of what exercise & community can do.

Yeah the physical stuff matters.

But this is the bit that matters more.

If you’ve been thinking about trying the 21 Day Accelerator, this is your sign

The scales only tell you one thing, your weight

They don't tell you anything else

Two people can weigh exactly the same and look completely different, depending on things like muscle, body fat, even how much water they're holding that day

So if you've got a bad relationship with the scales or they're the only way you're tracking progress, here's a few more measurements worth taking

Circumference measurements
Your waist, arm, thigh. These can shift even when the scales don't move especially if you're building muscle while losing fat. One of the most underused ways to actually see what's changing

Progress photos
These highlight changes that don't always show up as a number. Two people who weigh 70kg can look completely different depending on training, muscle and lifestyle

Clothing
The work trousers you wear every day. That dress that felt a bit tight last month. If your clothes start to feel looser progress is happening, whether the scales agree or not

Strength progress
Shifting the focus from how you look to what you can actually do is a nice change of pace for a lot of people. Watching your lifts go up shows you what your body's capable of not just what it weighs.

If the scales are the only thing you're using to track progress save this post and start using some of these instead😊

Getting older is inevitable as much as some of you fu***rs try to avoid it..

But falling apart as you age doesn't have to be.

3 things that make more of a meaningful difference as you age, note none of them involve freezing your face

1. Eat enough protein.

Your body becomes less efficient at holding onto muscle the older you get. Protein is the main thing that slows that down & most people aren't eating nearly enough of it.

2. Lift something heavy.

Not just for people who want to look a certain way.

Strength training keeps you stronger, more balanced & more independent for longer.

The alternative is slowly becoming someone who needs help getting off the sofa.

3. Eat like you give a s**t about yourself.

Plenty of variety, plenty of colour, food that actually does something for you rather than just filling a gap.

Don’t make it complicated & be consistent.

I’m feeling generous so here’s a bonus one for you

4. Manage your stress.

Chronic stress ages you & kills you faster than almost anything. Walk, get outside, do something you actually enjoy, have fun & talk to someone if you need to.

You might be thinking well none of this is groundbreaking

And I would agree but most people find out they’re not doing these & they should've started sooner!

Don't be most people.
Don’t be a bitch.

Look after yourselfđŸ‘ŠđŸŒ

This is what coaching actually looks like

Not just standing there counting reps

But giving you different cues to help you nail the movement

Constantly assessing your technique to make sure you’re moving safely & effectively

Watching how the weight moves to judge whether it’s the right load for you

Shouting words of encouragement to help you push through a heavy set

Feedback to help you keep improving

The last thing we do is just stand and count reps

(And it’s not just because we can’t count)

Save this for the next time someone says PT is just standing there counting reps so you can show them this

You know one of the sneakiest things that can stop you from losing weight is

Stress

It’s often overlooked

Or if you’re like some of my clients you maybe brush it off as nothing

But it has a funny way of creeping in to pretty much everything without even realising

It can impact your nutrition. Your food choices, how often you eat, how your body reacts to what you eat

It can impact your training. Your focus in sessions, how heavy things feel, your ability to push harder, your recovery

It can impact your sleep. Stopping you from falling asleep, waking you up in the middle of the night, feeling shattered in the mornings

This is why we check in with each of our clients regularly to see how they’re doing & to see where stress is at

Because training, nutrition, recovery & sleep all have a big impact on their progress and stress has a big impact on all those things

If you feel like your weight loss has stopped, check in with yourself and assess whether stress might be having an impact

And give this post a save so you can go back to it

You can do sit ups until the cows come home but it's not going to get rid of your belly fat

It's a myth that I thought had finally been busted

But someone asked me the other week if doing more sit ups would get rid of the belly they hated

And I get the logic

If you exercise the area then you would lose body fat from there

But alas that's not quite how it works

If you want to get rid of your belly you need to lose body fat in general

Which comes down to eating less calories than your body needs

Not doing 50 million sit ups a day

So what actually helps?

A calorie deficit, some resistance training to hold onto muscle while you lose fat and enough consistency to stick at it long enough to see it through

Sit ups aren't pointless though

They're great for building core strength

Just don't expect them to shift the fat sitting on top of it

Save this post for the next time someone tells you that the best way to get rid of belly fat is by training your belly so you remember they're talking s**tđŸ’©

Jade was doing everything herself.

She knew how to train, knew how to perform the exercises, but was constantly second guessing whether what she was doing was actually going to work.

Jumping from one random online plan to the next.

Always doubting herself

“It’s just mentally tiring”

đŸ‘†đŸŒHer words not mine.

She reached out wanting something built specifically for her so she could just get on with it without the noise in her head.

So that’s what we did.

And 12 weeks later she’s 7.2kg down, getting stronger & she’s starting to figure out her own nutrition when life throws a curve ball.

But honestly the bit that got me most was this message she sent me recently.

“Knowing I have you in my corner that I can message at any time about training, nutrition, supplements, mindset, progress is comforting and gives me a sense of confidence in doing what I’m doing. Also I can message you something completely random and you don’t judge me, you’ll normally have a laugh or throw me a shovel to dig myself further down a rabbit hole, like your just as weird as me

That’s a good thing btw😂”

Results and feeling like that at the same time, that’s the goal, that’s all I want really

Proud of her!

Am I really that weird?đŸ€”

You don't need a better programme, you need a bedtime

Following on from Tuesday’s post, here’s 3 tips to actually improve your sleep

1 - Parent yourself

Set a bedtime and actually stick to it, the same way you would do with a kid

Yes staying up to watch one more episode sounds like a great idea but this is the lack of structure that leaves you wondering why you’re tired all the time

2 - Give yourself a chance to wind down properly

Turn off your screens (yes that includes your phone) at least 30 minutes before bed

Do something you find relaxing like reading, stretching, meditating, whatever you find helps switch off your brain

3 - Have a consistent wake up time

Yes even on weekends

It doesn’t have to be exactly the same but waking up at a similar time every day helps your body clock and keeps a solid sleep routine

Save this for when you’re trying to sort out your sleep
