Today marks a huge milestone for NewHeart Learning 💜

Today, we welcome our very first student through our doors.

What started as an idea built on hope, passion, and the belief that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood has now become a reality.

Over the past months, there has been so much hard work behind the scenes, refurbishing our provision, creating policies and procedures, building relationships, and designing a nurturing environment where young people can thrive both emotionally and academically.

Today is the beginning of the journey we have worked so hard for, and we couldn’t be prouder.

To everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, believed in us, shared our posts, offered advice, or helped in any way, with the bottom of our hearts we thank you. Your support has meant everything.

Most importantly, we are proud to begin making a difference to young people who need an alternative approach to education, wellbeing, and belonging.

Here’s to the start of something very special 💜

Alternative education is a legal duty

If your child is of compulsory school age and is not in education due to illness, permanent exclusion, or any other reason (including anxiety, EBSA, or unmet needs), your local authority must act.

Under Section 19 of the Education Act 1996, the local authority has a duty to secure suitable alternative education. An EHCP is NOT required for this.

I’ve added a link to IPSEA’s guidance below, which also includes a template letter you can use to formally request this from your local authority. You may need to open in a browser though

https://www.ipsea.org.uk/asking-the-local-authority-to-arrange-alternative-education-model-letter-22

You’re not being difficult by asking for this, you’re only asking for the law to be followed.

P.S I know it’s really hard to get, but hopefully it will help people to understand their rights x

We’re currently looking for an English teacher and a Science teacher to join us at NewHeart Learning, our new alternative provision that’s been built with so much care and passion.

This isn’t your typical teaching role. It’s for someone who truly wants to make a difference, working with young people who may have struggled in mainstream settings, and helping them rebuild confidence, find their strengths, and feel seen.

We’re looking for people who are:
✨ Kind, patient, and understanding
✨ Passionate about their subject
✨ Open-minded and willing to think outside the box
✨ Ready to be part of something meaningful from the ground up

If that sounds like you, or someone you know, please reach out or share this post. Sometimes the right person just needs to see the right opportunity at the right time.

Thank you 💜
