Washing and using pegs . . . .
Fine motor skills – Strengthens the small muscles in the hands and fingers needed for writing, drawing, and self-care tasks.
Hand strength – Improves grip and finger strength by squeezing the pegs open and closed.
Pincer grip – Develops the thumb-and-forefinger grasp, which is essential for holding pencils and manipulating small objects.
Concentration and attention – Requires focus and persistence to position and attach the pegs
Problem-solving – Children learn how much pressure to apply and how to position the peg successfully.
Children don’t need hours of holding a pencil - ALL the above are preparation for writing when they are ready and willing.
Language development – Opportunities to introduce descriptive words such as squeeze, pinch, clip, open and close.
Independence and confidence – Successfully completing the task builds self-esteem and encourages perseverance.
Let your child help you at home - YOU WILL be supporting their learning 🎉

Cause and effect – Understanding that rolling or throwing a ball makes the skittles fall.
Counting and number recognition – Counting how many skittles are standing, how many fell, and how many remain.
Spatial awareness – Judging distances and positioning the skittles.
