We had the great pleasure of welcoming Carlos & Helin from Lidl to The Family and Community Hub at Highlees yesterday to cook some of the surplus food we collect from local supermarkets alongside some of our Eco Council representatives. The children thoroughly enjoyed cooking the food which we then handed out to our families at the end of the school day. We are so grateful to Lidl for providing some much needed food for our families and community and hope to work with them again soon Neighbourly

🥦🍅 **FOOD FESTIVAL FUN!** 🍝✨

On Friday, Miss Cooper and our amazing Eco Council hosted a very special Food Festival in partnership with guest volunteer, Lauren Kisby!
Lauren works innovatively in the food industry, and she showed our children how to work some culinary magic—transforming surplus food into absolutely delicious dishes. 🌟

> 🛒 **Did you know?**

This food was collected completely free from Lidl, Aldi, and Sainsbury’s via the Neighbourly scheme. We love rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste!

Our surplus food is always free for our community, and on Friday, we gave out over 150 free portions—hopefully giving plenty of families a well-deserved break from cooking in the heat and lots of ideas for how they use our free food in the future! ☀️🥗

Our provision room children also jumped right into the action, learning some essential kitchen skills, including:

* 🔪 Safe knife handling and chopping
* 🧼 Kitchen hygiene and cleaning
* 🥕 Nutrition and healthy choices
* 🛒 Top tips on shopping local and reducing food waste

A massive thank you to Lauren for inspiring us all! She will be back soon with even more fantastic ideas to help us protect our planet while saving time, money, and waste. 🌍💚

🍎 Free Food Giveaway – Join Us After School Tomorrow for the Highlees Food Festival! 🍎

Please join us after school tomorrow for our free food giveaway!

Our children have been learning all about reducing food waste and will be spending the day working with a professional to create a selection of delicious dishes using ingredients from our Community Trolley.

Come along to sample their creations, pick up some recipe ideas to try at home, and discover simple ways to reduce food waste while making the most of everyday ingredients.

At the end of the day, please help yourselves to the free food available from the stall at the front of the school. We look forward to seeing you there!

Smiles, teamwork and total dedication. So incredibly proud of our girls' football team! 💯⚽️
