I hope you are all keeping well during these troubled times. If you hadn't heard / seen or been told by your school or college this is the current UK Government plans for awarding grades this year:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/further-details-on-exams-and-grades-announced

It is basically the system used if a person has "special circumstances" leading up to or during exam times that means they may not have performed to the best they could.

Some (all?) qualifications will be allowing an actual exam if required / wanted early in the 2020-2021 academic year (look out for possible timetables). But that one is a wait and see based on the duration of the pandemic.

Finally, stay safe, stay indoors (as much as you can within reason), keep your distance if you do go out and if you need any help with academic related matters, get in touch, details elsewhere on the page.

On the subject of space & the ISS for those of you in and around the Deeping / Peterborough area:

ISS Tonight (Sat 29/9/18) 🛰️🛰️🛰️

Two passes visible tonight:
1) Time: 7:47 PM, Visible: 4 min, Max Height: 60°, Appears: 18° above WSW, Disappears: 19° above E
2) Time: 9:23 PM, Visible: 1 min, Max Height: 27°, Appears: 12° above W, Disappears: 27° above W

First Pass:
Pretty similar to Friday night, not quite as high but following a similar path. If you are facing south then it’ll be rising in the direction of Maxey and travelling from your right to left in the direction of Crowland where it’ll vanish.

Second Pass:
Short and sweet, only a minute, might not be visible in more built up areas as it only gets to about 2.5 – 3 potatoes above the horizon. Rising from where the sun set and disappears in the same place (but higher in the sky).

Weather is predicted clear, for both passes, the first isn’t that long after sunset (at 7pm) so the sky will be relatively light but it’ll still be very bright.

Happy spotting!

(The picture below is one I took of the pass on Friday 28th, just before it disappears in the eastern sky - you can see the trail fade. If you look closely you can see two other fainter satellite trails - I'll let you hunt them out! Oh, and also a bit of the Milky Way in the background too ) 👍

Tim Peake's Spacecraft - Peterborough Cathedral 29/09/2018

If you haven't already been to see it, why not pop to Peterborough Cathedral and see it? By "It" I mean the Soyuz TMA-19M space capsule that astronaut Tim Peake used to return to the earth's surface after his 6 month stay on the ISS. It's there until November 5th.

http://www.peterborough-cathedral.org.uk/soyuz.aspx

And while you are at it, have a wander around the 900 year old Cathedral and compare modern science & engineering to how they did it back then (book a tour if you can and see the bits you can't normally see, I did over the summer and it was extremely interesting!).

Oh, and don't forget your camera!

Tim Peake's Spacecraft - Peterborough Cathedral Peterborough Cathedral is one of the finest Norman buildings surviving in Europe today and is a UK landmark.

Now that the results are in, how did you do? If you didn't get what you wanted / hoped for, what now?

Talk to someone. Family and/or friends.

Contact School or College and see what your options are (you'd be surprised).

Contact UCAS (for clearing, if you haven't already), speak to your University of choice directly. Again, you might be pleasantly surprised at what is available for you.

Are re-sits of selected subjects an option? (Talk to School Exams office / Heads of subject / College admission tutors).

The second most important thing to remember is that whatever the results you got, they are a stepping stone to the next level. Don't worry if you currently can't head in the direction you want to, there are always other ways to achieve what you want, it might just take a little longer than originally planned.

The first and *most* important thing is to talk to someone. There are all manner of people out there at this time of year to help you on your way or simply listen to you and offer advice.

Remember, just because one obvious door appears to be closed, it doesn't mean that it is permanently, explore your options.

Finally, got your results but still have no idea what you want to do?

Great! That means you have a huge range of options available. Considering Uni but don't know what or where? How about working for a bit? Volunteering? Travelling? Internship type placements?

Sit back and think about your options, what do you like doing? Is there something out there that takes your fancy that you think you could do? Talk to people, careers advice, University admissions, College admissions, fire up your fave search engine and surf.

Most of all, don't worry, I had no idea at first what I wanted to do, then it all suddenly fell into place and I had a plan.

Finally, remember, you are not the only one out there in that position, reach out and talk to someone, I can guarantee that you will be surprised at your options.

Congratulations to all the students I've worked with this academic year, from what I have heard back, an excellent set of results all round! Your hard work and dedication paid off.

Enjoy the last bit of the summer before you begin your A-Levels or go off to Uni!
