Nine years ago, I lost my Dad π
Losing someone close to you is so hard to navigate, and is not something we are prepared for. I understand now that grief comes and goes but never truly leaves us, we just grow around it.
Both my parents are sporting enthusiasts and the reason I started gymnastics when I was teeny, tiny. I fell in love with, not just gymnastics, but sport and moved on to sports coaching. They have both supported me through all of life's challenges and this is so valuable to where I have found myself π₯°
I started coaching when I was 15 years old and went off to University (3 times π¬) to study Sport Science, MSc in Sports Biomechanics and finally got my PhD Researching Gymnastics Landing Forces. I am now a Sport Coaching Senior Lecturer at University because this is where my heart lies.
It is always difficult losing someone, that goes without saying, but no one prepares you for how it changes your outlook on life!
Losing my Dad inspired me to change directions and create not only but also my photography which is our initials Emma and Michael π
And I just kept going!! I miss you Dad but life is good π§‘
And on the weekend of the anniversary yet again Dad, I am going to work in a tracksuit (his words!), something he was so proud of me for achieving because he loved sport π₯°
And as I have done so through my for many years
will be making donations to
Thank you for the amazing support you give family and loved ones in those final moments π
And today, as alwaysβ¦ Don't Stop Me Now by Queen felt like the only song to end this with π§‘

Years ago, when Inspire was just the two of us running a couple of weekly classes in a hired venue, before the schedule of classes, the team of coaches, the camps and our own studio, I was given this advice:
βStay in your lane.β
So I did.
I stopped looking sideways.
I focused on what felt right for me, the team we were building and stuck to my own coaching philosophy, values, and standards.
Not everything worked the first time. We certainly made mistakes. But we took some time to learn what worked for everyone and what needed adapting.
I have tried to build a place with strong values, a real team ethos and we now have such an incredible team. A team where we all feel supported, valued and challenged.
So thank you Chloe for this advice π
