Sense College East

Sense College East Sense College provides personalised learning experiences for young people with complex disabilities and/or sensory impairments.

It gives learners the education and skills needed to reach their living, education and employment goals. Sense College is both an education service and adult social care day service. Sense College’s independent specialist college provides personalised learning experiences for young people with complex disabilities. The Sense College education service runs for 38 weeks a year. Sense College education provision supports young people who are aged between 16 and 25 years old who have sensory impairments and/or moderate-complex learning difficulties. We also support young people who require specialist communication support, need positive behavioural support and/or have Asperger syndrome and Autistic spectrum conditions. Learners at Sense College will have the opportunity to follow a personalised study programme through three curriculum pathways: Learning for Life, Foundation Learning or Employability. Sense College learners must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

The adult social care day service at Sense College operates 45 weeks a year and offers adults with complex disabilities access to a range of opportunities from a personalised schedule of activities.

On 24th September 2026, Sense College Aldeby were delighted to welcome our local MP, Ben Goldsborough, to the centre. During his visit, Ben met with our Education and ELP students, taking time to learn about their experiences. Our new student, Jack, proudly gave Ben a tour of the building and garden, confidently showcasing the facilities and sharing what he enjoys about attending the centre. Discussions included community access opportunities, fundraising ideas, and ways to further support our learners within the local community. Students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the opportunity to engage with their local MP, making it a valuable and memorable experience for everyone involved

Sense College Peterborough had a visit from Big Kid Circus, who are performing in Peterborough this weekend!
They brought along some amazing magic tricks to share with us, and we were also lucky enough to meet their very special guest… Barney the baby dinosaur! 🦖💚
Everyone had a fantastic time interacting with Barney and enjoying the wonderful performance.

6 Characters. Unlimited Imagination. 1 Unforgettable Book! 📚✨

Back in September 2025, our Sense College, Aldeby students started a journey using picture choice boards to bring their very own storybook characters to life. Humans, monsters, objects, you name it, they created it! 🎨👾

With the help of Education Tutor Tracey Colman, Centre Administrator Steven Day and our amazing staff, our students didn't just create characters, they built entire adventures. Every plot twist, outfit, and journey came straight from their brilliant imaginations, proving that everyone can be a storyteller. 🌟

Now, we’re looking for a printing partner to help us bring this book to print! Proceeds from the book will go directly back into supporting the Centre and our students.

Could you be a Permanent SEND Tutor at Sense College?

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a SEND Tutor at Sense College East based in Rothwell, Northamptonshire.

This is a permanent, full time or part time vacancy, working between 22.5 and 37.5 hours per week.

This role full time offers a salary of £28,425.10 per annum.

The successful applicants will support a small group of 6-8 young people with special education needs as they prepare for adulthood.

On Friday 3rd July, Sense Knapwell hosted a visit from Ian Sollom, MP for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire and Liberal Democrats Universities and Skills Spokesperson.

Ian was invited to visit the service by Judy, whose daughter Rachel has attended Sense Knapwell since it opened 20 years ago.
The visit was very positive, with Ian taking a great interest in the sessions happening at the centre, including a sensory drumming session.

We then spoke to Ian about how he can support Sense through his work in parliament, particularly relating to the SEND reforms. He was keen to support our asks to government and be a champion for Sense.

Thanks to the team at Sense Knapwell for hosting Ian and making sure it was such a successful visit.

Our Rothwell students had great fun creating a story and an illustrated image of themselves.

The Rainy Day at Duck Pond
Niamh, Marielle, and Jasmin pulled on their bright raincoats and splashed through puddles on their way to Duck Pond.
The sky was grey, and soft rain tapped on their hoods like tiny drums.
"Look!" shouted Jasmin.
A family of ducks was paddling happily across the pond. The ducks didn't seem to mind the rain at all. In fact, they looked as if they were having fun!
Niamh laughed as one duck flapped its wings and sprayed water everywhere.
"It's having a bath
As they walked back along the pond, a bright rainbow peeked through the clouds. "A rainbow!" cried Marielle. The three friends stopped to admire the beautiful colours stretching across the sky. Even the ducks seemed to pause and look up. Niamh, Marielle, and Jasmin made a wish together and hoped they would have many more adventures at Duck Pond.
