๐ข DFE Funding Update โ Great News for Employers Recruiting Young Apprentices!
The Department for Education (DFE) has today confirmed an important update to apprenticeship co-investment, effective for new starts from 1 August 2026.
โ
100% government funding for the training and assessment costs of all eligible apprentices aged 16โ24.
This means that once a levy-paying employer has exhausted their levy funds, there will be no employer co-investment to pay for eligible new apprentice starts aged 16โ24.
For example:
A Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 apprenticeship with a ยฃ3,500 funding band will now be funded as follows:
๐ค Apprentice aged 16โ24
Employer contribution: ยฃ0
Government contribution: ยฃ3,500 (100%)
๐ค Apprentice aged 25+
Employer contribution: ยฃ875 (25%)
Government contribution: ยฃ2,625 (75%)
This change applies to new starts only. Existing apprentices will continue under the previous funding arrangements.
The DFE has also announced a targeted bursary for eligible young people to help remove financial barriers that can prevent some from starting an apprenticeship. More details on eligibility and how to apply will be released soon.
This is fantastic news for employers looking to invest in young talent, making it even more affordable to recruit and develop the workforce of the future.
If you're considering taking on an apprentice or would like to understand what these changes mean for your business, get in touchโwe'd be happy to help.
