Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who contributed food to the September Cafe. It was a wonderful spread of dishes from across the world and much enjoyed by all those who came along.

If you ordered, or want to order, a recipe calendar for 2027 (price £10 each) then it would be a great help if you could pay cash in advance at the next cafe.

At our October gathering we are having an African theme. Do you know where Eswatini is located? Want to learn more about African drumming? Do join us for a varied evening of information, music and food. Bring along a drum if you have one and wear something colourful!

Trustees Wanted – ESOLPerth
Could you help shape the future of ESOLPerth?
ESOLPerth (SC046650) is looking for new Trustees to join our welcoming Board and support our work helping adults learn English and connect with their local community.
No trustee experience is required. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic, committed and keen to make a difference.
We would particularly like to hear from people with experience or knowledge in:
• Governance
• HR
• Finance
• ESOL
We also warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience of relocating to the UK, whose insights can help strengthen our work.
This is a voluntary role and a rewarding opportunity to support a local charity, develop new skills and help create positive opportunities for others.

The claims currently circulating on social media about people seeking asylum receiving free driving lessons, free driving tests and transport to test centres in Perth and Kinross Council vehicles are completely false.

Misinformation spreads quickly online so before sharing content, it's worth taking a moment to check the facts.

You cannot sit a theory test or a practical driving test in the UK without holding a provisional driving licence. Obtaining a provisional licence requires proof of identity and immigration status, including confirmation that the individual has the legal right to stay in the UK.

Secondly, our pool vehicles are easy to spot as the vast majority have our branding on them.

Unfortunately, many social media posts are designed to provoke a strong reaction because this often leads to more likes, comments and shares. Before reposting or sharing information, take a moment to check whether it is accurate.

A useful way to do this is the SIFT method:

S – Stop
Pause before reacting or sharing. Ask yourself whether you know and trust the source.

I – Investigate the source
Find out who is behind the information and whether they are a credible source.

F – Find better coverage
Look to see whether trusted organisations, official bodies or established news outlets are reporting the same information.

T – Trace claims back to the source
Try to find the original source of the claim, image or quote and check whether it has been taken out of context.

Taking a few moments to verify information before sharing it can help prevent misinformation spreading online.
