Investing in students. Supporting future careers. 🤝

Over the past three years, funding from RES has helped 92 students across the UHI partnership take their next steps towards their future careers — supporting everything from professional qualifications and conferences to research visits and personal development opportunities.

For Samir Saha, a BA (Hons) Hospitality Management student at UHI Perth, this support enabled him to undertake the W**e & Spirit Education Trust (WSET ) Level 1 and Level 2 Awards in W**es, developing specialist knowledge to support his future career in hospitality.

Students at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) are developing new skills, gaining practical experience and pursuing career opportunities through the Student Development Fund, supported by renewable energy company RES.

🎨✨ Creativity, connection and wellbeing took centre stage at UHI Perth last month as more than 130 students took part in the innovative Falling UP Together SCIO KUBE experience.

The immersive creative space encouraged students to explore wellbeing through art, conversation and collaborative activities, creating opportunities for self-expression, reflection and connection.

The event marks another milestone in our growing partnership with Falling UP, with exciting discussions now underway around future creative projects across campus.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and to the Falling UP team for bringing this unique experience to UHI Perth.

🌍✈️ It was a pleasure to welcome aviation professionals from across the industry to UHI Perth last week.

Visitors toured our facilities, met our talented aviation students and staff, and explored opportunities to strengthen links between education and industry. Partnerships like these help ensure our students gain the skills, knowledge and connections needed for successful careers in aviation. 🚀

🚐 Our Student Engagement Coordinator, Sam, met with Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, to discuss the impact of the Transport to Employment (T2e) initiative.

Aiming to help people overcome transport barriers and access education, training and employment opportunities. Sam explained: "Something as simple as getting from A to B can genuinely change someone's future."

Students have chosen the priorities for UHI and Highlands and Islands Students' Association (HISA) new Student Partnership Agreement: action on the cost of living and a stronger student community.

From 2026 to 2029, we’ll work together on financial and basic needs support, rented accommodation, hidden course costs, safety and respect, and tackling isolation.

These priorities came from student feedback and a student vote, and they will continue to help shape the work.
