Congratulations to Leanne and Allison for winning our Table Topics competition! 🎉

For the first time ever, we had a tie at Toastmasters! You both did an amazing job — you’ve officially created a new Toastmasters precedent! 👏😂

And look who came along to join us today… 🐶❤️
Look at this little beauty! Isn’t it cute? 🥹 Our very special four-legged guest came to visit Toastmasters today!

🎉 Congratulations to our Table Topics winner, Daksha! 🎉

At our 3 August meeting, with the theme "Discoveries", Daksha won us over with her hilarious answer to the question:

👽 "If aliens discovered Earth tomorrow, what would confuse them the most?"

Her answer? Accents! 😄

And honestly... she has a point! One country can have countless accents, and here in Scotland, it sometimes feels like every town has its own. From Glaswegian to Highland accents (and maybe even a few "secret" ones! 🤫), it's no wonder newcomers sometimes wonder if everyone is speaking the same language.

Daksha shared her own experience of trying to understand the different Scottish accents when she first arrived, and it was both incredibly relatable and absolutely hilarious. We were all laughing along, especially at her stories about the Highlands!

Thank you, Daksha, for reminding us that sometimes the best discoveries come from the funniest misunderstandings. Congratulations once again on your well-deserved win! 👏💙

What comes to mind when you hear the word discovery?

For some, it's the discovery of a new continent. For others, it's a scientific breakthrough, a life lesson, a new friendship, or simply discovering something about themselves.

That's why we've chosen Discoveries as the theme for our next meeting. It's inspired by the spirit of exploration, but it's not limited to history. Every discovery has a story, and every story deserves to be heard.

Whether you have a tale to tell or you'd simply like to listen and experience Toastmasters for the first time, we'd love to welcome you.

Come along, meet new people, enjoy a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, and discover where your voice can take you.
You might leave with a new discovery of your own.

Guests are always welcome!

🎉 Congratulations, Roxy, on winning Best Table Topics Speaker! 🎉

You did an amazing job at our Toastmasters meeting on Monday, 20 July.

I really enjoyed your speech, and I thought the question you were given was brilliant. Out of all the Table Topics responses, yours was definitely my favourite!

When asked, "What habit would you start this summer?"Your answer was unforgettable:

"The same one, I promise myself every year but never manage to keep—going to bed early!" 😂

It was such a hilarious moment and had us all laughing. Congratulations again—you absolutely deserved the win!

Last meeting was a fantastic one! 🎉
We were treated to not one, but two Icebreaker speeches from new members, Roxy and Maria. Icebreakers are the first prepared speeches that new members do and are always a highlight, giving us the chance to get to know our new members and hear their unique stories. Well done to both of you on a great start to your Toastmasters journey! 👏
We also enjoyed an engaging speech from Caroline, who told us all about CareSound Radio, formerly known as Hospital Radio Perth. It was fascinating to learn about the station's history and the valuable work it continues to do for patients, Carehomes and the local community. 📻
A huge thank you to Brenda, who did a wonderful job as our Toastmaster for the evening—and earned extra appreciation for bringing along her delicious homemade chocolate brownies! 🍫😊
Thank you to everyone who contributed to another enjoyable and inspiring meeting. We look forward to seeing you all at the next one on Monday 20th July

What a fantastic evening celebrating Say Something Nice Day!

We enjoyed two excellent speeches. Alan shared great insights on how to develop a keynote speech, along with a hilarious story highlighting the risks of using scratch cards as employee rewards! Brenda followed with an inspiring speech on the art of giving compliments and great practical tips.
The compliment theme continued with some wonderful Table Topics from Maria, focused on giving praise and recognising others. Congratulations to Letitia, who won Best Table Topic! Table Topics are the Toastmasters way of practising impromptu speaking, and we're delighted that she has joined Perth Toastmasters.

A special thank you to Phil, who managed the entire meeting brilliantly. Phil got us to work in pairs, complimenting each other—something that doesn't come naturally to many of us, but which created a positive vibe throughout the evening.

If you'd like to hear some excellent examples of Toastmasters storytelling skills, tune in to the CareSound Radio podcast, where Daksha, Phil and Alan from Perth Toastmasters share some wonderful stories. https://www.mixcloud.com/CareSoundRadio/talkback-the-toastmasters-takeover/

Most important things first — we had delicious homemade shortbread kindly provided by our president Brenda! 😋
Brenda also chaired the meeting and kept everything running smoothly.

Claire from Dundee TM gave a wonderful speech on dog nutrition, full of useful insights and delivered brilliantly. 🐶

Caroline explained how to end a speech effectively, and the Table Topics session, where members practise thinking and speaking on the spot, was pretty tough this week! The theme was “Mistakes and Luck”.

Daksha took the win with a hilarious story about three types of bird — chicken, duck… and ham?? 🤣 Surely a mistake there somewhere!

Another enjoyable and entertaining meeting with plenty of laughs and learning along the way.
