Tonight, we remember the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster of 1981.

On a night when hurricane-force winds and huge seas battered the coast, the Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne launched to help the stricken cargo ship Union Star, which had lost power and was being driven towards the rocks near Lamorna.

Sixteen people died that night, including all eight Penlee lifeboatmen. It remains one of the RNLI’s darkest days and one of its greatest acts of courage.

We will always honour their memory.

What a great first day of Superstars we’ve had!! ⭐️

Our students really got into the spirit of things with some amazing team fancy dress costumes, and everyone who took part did their best for the glory of their tutor group.

After handball🤾 seated volleyball 🏐 Wii bowling 🎳 and a tug-of-war the leaders at the end of day 1 are the 1st year Sport Science (bananas 🍌) but there is everything to play for tomorrow when we move on to laser tag & dodgeball!

You know it’s nearly Christmas when Superstars arrives and this year’s going to be a belter🌟

Our sport science students headed to Penzance Gymnastics Club this week to look at the principles of Psychology and Biomechanics in action 🤸

On the beam the club coaches helped our students look at how different sizes of base of support can affect balance and stability.

On the bar students tried different body positions to rotate around 360 degrees of angular motion🔄

Finally we looked at how to use motivation to overcome anxiety and our students built their confidence in leaping into the foam pit!

The time has come for the annual Superstars Christmas tournament 🎄

Next Thursday & Friday Sport Science and Business tutors groups will compete against each other in fun activities to win the ultimate prize - the title of “Superstars 2025🏆

With activities including handball, seated volleyball, tug-of-war and the chance for bonus points in ‘gamers corner’ there is EVERYTHING to play for 🙌

🏀Thanks to for travelling down for today’s basketball friendly ⛹🏻‍♂️

🏀 It was great to see both teams giving all their players a run out in a game that was played in great spirits ⛹🏻‍♂️

🏀 The game gave Coach Jamie chance to have a look at all of his players in action and the players had chance to identify things they need to work on in training ⛹🏻‍♂️

The wet weather this week gave our rugby academy some lovely pitch conditions for their game against Huish 💦 🏉

Our lads got stuck right in from the start and carved out a brilliant 35-24 win for themselves 👏 🙌

Some of our Sport Leaders headed to the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham last week for the SLP training event🗣️👥

The event focused on project planning, inclusion and the importance of helping people stay active 🤸🏼‍♂️🚶🏻

Our Leaders came back with some great ideas for activities to promote keeping our students physically active - watch this space for details of future projects! 👀

It’s revision time for our BTEC Sport & Exercise Science students as we prepare for pre-Christmas mock exams ✍️

From mind-maps to revision Jenga the students are using every method they can to get ready!! 📚

👋 This week we were happy to welcome Zac George from to Penwith.

🧑🏻‍🎓Zac outlined the sport degree opportunities available at the different UCFB campuses for students progressing from college

⏱️From coaching to performance analysis 📊 to content creation📱 the focus on all UCFB courses is on placement and work experience and the university has great links with clubs, teams, governing bodies and media outlets.

✅ Our sport students found the session really helpful as they start to consider their progression options after they finish their college course.
