If you have a little one starting Preschool or Reception this September, singing and sharing lots of rhymes and familiar songs at home can be so beneficial. 🕷️🐥🥚🐮🐄🫖
They’re very likely to sing lots of familiar songs and rhymes in Preschool & Reception (hopefully every day) and it’s a lovely way for them to build a strong connection between home and their new learning environment.
So many times when I’m teaching I’ve had children say, “Oh, my daddy sings that song to me!” or “My mummy plays that in the car!”
That little moment shows just how powerful familiar songs can be. They give children something they recognise and feel comfortable with in what can otherwise be a very new and sometimes daunting environment.
When they hear a song they know, they can listen or join in, and they make that lovely connection between something they do at home and something they’re now experiencing at preschool or school.
Don’t feel you need to spend this last bit of the holiday doing worksheets or maths books to get them ‘ready’ for school. There is so much learning happening through everyday play, talking, singing, sharing books, rhymes, counting games and simply spending time together.
So if your little one is starting somewhere new this September, keep singing those songs, repeating those rhymes and joining in together and maybe even acting some of them out with a few props. And…let me know your little ones favourite rhymes. 🎶❤️
