Little Acorns Pre School

Little Acorns Pre School The Little Acorns pre-school was established in order to give children who are in their pre- school year the opportunity to be a part of our school.

What do we want to achieve through Little Acorns Pre-school? We want to: -

Provide an extensive range of educational stimuli for imaginative and creative play. Supply a range of activities to encourage the development of language skills and gross & fine motor skills. Give the children the opportunity to become familiar with the organisation and routines of the reception classroom. Enable the chil

dren to establish relationships with their future peers and other adults in school. To build firm foundations for our future partnership with our parents.

Unfortunately, due to lack of numbers, we will not be running our Little Acorn sessions in the Autumn term. We need 10 children to regularly attend to cover costs. We may consider running in the Summer term if we have enough interest from the new reception children joining us September 2022.

If you do wish to register your interest, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hi everyone!
We hope you and your loved ones are all keeping safe and well. Just thought we would give you a quick update regarding Little Acorns.
With Covid-19 still very much with us and lockdowns taking place in Preston we have made the very difficult and heartbreaking decision to defer re-opening. We have constantly been assessing the situation, and we would like to stress this was not an easy decision to make, but felt it is the right one at this time. We hope that you will support our decision in these difficult and uncertain times and please be assured that we will reopen as soon as we possibly can. We have lots planned for this year and we can't wait to get back to some normality. I will update you with any news as soon as I can.
Keep safe and keep well.

Hello everyone. I hope you and my little angels are all keeping safe and well. DanceTalent, a local dance school, have offered a free street dance lesson to get us all up and moving while having fun. All family members can take part ( they have street classes from the very young to the more mature and even have a dance crew called the Gangsta Grannies and some of those are in their seventies. So come on and get moving and shake those cares away.
All you have to do is have the Zoom/us app on any phone/tablet/laptop (if you haven't already got then download in advance) then join the meeting using the following information:

You will need to use computer audio but Sue, the dance teacher, will mute everyone so you can talk without anyone else hearing and you can choose to switch the video off if you wish aa long as you can see Sue. If you click on Sue Vincent's image and click on the 3 dots it will say pin image, if you click on that, that you will see her in a bigger image to help you. Any questions just ask. I hope you will join us for a fun filled 30 mins of stress relieving dance.

For those of you who want to keep your little ones (or even the bigger ones) active. It is great for all the family to do together to keep us all active even though we can't exercise in the usual way.

It is with regret that we have taken the decision to cancel Little Acorns with immediate effect. We have no known cases of COVID-19 within our school and have taken this decision as a purely precautionary measure and in line with government advice. We are confident you will support this course of action and we will keep you updated on this page. Please message me or telephone school if you require any further information.

Today, we practised more letter sounds and talked about any words we knew that started with those letter sounds. As it was a beautiful afternoon, we went outside to play and looked at all the plants beginning to grow, the children practised their balancing skills on the big tyres, chased shadows on the floor and enjoyed the outside space. As it is World Book Day tomorrow, we acted out the 'Three Billy Goats Gruff' using our climbing equipment as the bridge. Some of the children pretended to be the goats and some the trolls (we used poetic license there 😉) and then swapped over. They did an amazing job of retelling the story.
We came inside and the children played beautifully together, sharing their ideas of what is happening in their games and sharing the toys.

Last week, the children made 'pancakes' using paper plates and cutting out pancakes using pale yellow paper, pictures of the toppings they like best on their pancakes and then gluing them onto their paper plate. For snack time, we talked about how the pancake mixture changes texture and smells different at each stage. Firstly, we looked at the powder in the pre mixed bottle and then we added the water which turned our powder into a liquid. We took turns to shake the bottle to make sure it was mixed together properly. After that, we had a good look at the mixture and talked about how the mixture looked and smelled different. We then watched the pancakes cook and the children saw how the mixture was no longer a liquid and runny and that it had turned into a solid and the more it cooked on the heat the more the pancake changed to a darker colour.
The children then chose the toppings they wanted and enjoyed them as their snack. They were delicious.

Today we practised our letter sounds 's' 'a' 't' 'p' 'i' and 'n'. We discovered that it spelt out a name and the children found the letters and held them up. We also had fun playing our shopping game, practising our fine motor skills and hand eye coordination by threading buttons etc onto string and doing jigsaws. We played 'Frustration' and practised taking turns and counting. We also had our Aquadraw mats out to practise writing our letter sounds and mark making. The children had asked of they could have some cereal as a snack again after we had it after our threading 'Cheerio' activity a couple of weeks ago, I think they enjoyed their snack don't you?
Little Acorns is not open next week due to half term, we are back on Wednesday 26th February. Happy half term!

This week we talked about the people who help us. The children matched up the emergency vehicles to the pictures of the people who drive them. We also talked about other people who help us like teachers, lollipop people, doctors, vets etc. Next, they worked together really well and put together our road jigsaw and helped each other sort out where the pieces go and placed 'people who help us' next to where they would be working. We all worked together as a group and matched up pictures of when we might need help and who would us. Oh my word they worked hard! We finished off with a snack of toast, apple and banana with water and milk to drink. ❤
