Our free course, all about geology, exploration, manufacturing and associated environmental and social best practice associated with the metals that we use in smartphones, computers, wind turbines and electric cars starts again on Monday 4th May. Lots of examples and contributions in the course from the HiTech AlkCarb project.

We are at the EU Raw Materials Week in Brussels this week. Hear about positive impacts on SMEs in raw materials exploration tomorrow from Klaus Brauch (Terratec Geophysical Services) and Will Dawes (Lancaster Exploration) and meet the team, at the Horizon 2020 Technology Success Stories day.

On the 27th November 2019 at the Royal Society in London we will be celebrating the outcomes resulting from 4½ years of work on the HiTech AlkCarb and SoS RARE projects and discussing the future of critical raw materials research, exploration and applications.

Our workshop is aimed at a broad audience with interest in a green future, environmentally sustainable exploration and mining and hi-tech manufacturing. During the day we will discuss the big picture of our research and the need for critical raw materials, and we will highlight the key results of our work over the last few years and consider a vision for the future. In the evening we will hold a drinks reception to celebrate our work and launch some of our 3d project models.

On our 2nd day of our workshop we are discussing geomodels in depth, considering how to develop and maintain an online catalogue of alkaline rocks and carbonatites, and hearing updates from expert councillors and project partners. Some impressive monazite crystals to look at from Eureka in Namibia and drafts of our 3d deposit models. So useful to meet in person and discuss.

This week is our last whole-consortium workshop, hosted by Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter in Falmouth. Today we have focused on planning our end of project events, at Raw Materials Week in Brussels and Royal Society in London coinciding with the Mines and Money meeting, both in November 2019. Exciting to plan dissemination and discussions with policymakers, value chain industry and journalists. Now we move into updates from our natural labs; first up Songwe in Malawi from Terratec Geophysical Services and Lancaster Exploration.

We are in Copenhagen this week for our second project geomodels workshop and Horizon 2020 periodic review meeting. Day 1 going well. An inspiring review meeting this morning, exciting to discuss project progress with our reviewer and project officer and now we start our consortium meeting so looking forward to lots of updates and enlivening discussions.
