A new paper by Dr Sarah Crowley entitled 'Wild attachments' is about the phenomena of human connections with, and persistent ties to, wildlife. This might be an (inter)personal relationship with the crows in your garden or a community's adoption of 'their' population of pine marten. How do these attachments form, and what effects do they have?

The author developed a framework through which people might better describe (and further investigate) wild attachments. As well as shedding light on a fascinating and important human-animal relationship, Dr Crowley hopes that this helps people to understand and articulate why a wild individual animal, population, or species matters to them or their community.

The annual carbon footprint on our Penryn Campus has been reduced by 250 tonnes. The multi-technology solution is expected to pay for itself in eight years and make a 12% return each year. Work has included a one megawatt-peak rooftop solar installation on buildings, 180kw heat pump pilot projects and the private-wire wind turbine that is currently in development.
