🌿✨🌍MONDAY at THRIVE 🌍✨🌿

Another lovely day of cultural learning, creativity and exploration at THRIVE! 💛

We explored the story of Ellen DeGeneres, opening up conversations around identity and acceptance, discovered the creative career of an animator and continued our Cornwall geology studies with Mike. 🌍🪨

Our Thrivers developed listening, teamwork and trust through group games, experimented with freshly popped popcorn and continued learning Cornish, discovering some animal names ahead of our upcoming workshop! 🐾🌿

A day full of curiosity, conversation and learning together. 💛

❤️ Another fabulous day at THRIVE! 🌿

We started with a game of trust, discovered Carl Linnaeus, the botanist who developed a system for naming and classifying living things and explored the fascinating work of a Foley artist, creating everyday sounds for films! This sparked some brilliant conversations about AI, human intelligence and WW2.

Then came our team food challenge! 👩‍🍳 Creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and safe tool use were all put to the test, with plenty of imagination and delicious creations along the way.
A simple question about wheat bread opened up a thoughtful discussion about allergies, food choices, inclusion and respecting individual needs. ❤️

We finished with some beautiful still-life painting, creating postcards to write and post next Friday. 🎨💌

Curiosity, creativity and big conversations — learning together, thriving together. 🌱

Come have some family fun at Chyan Cultural Centre’s wonderful Apple Fayre Day 🍎🍏🍎🍏

Come and join us to celebrate the Apple Harvest at Chyan Farm.

The Apple Fayre is a family friendly event nestled in amongst our beautiful orchards.

Live Music from great artists (both local and from further afield) such as Liz Ikamba, CeCe and The Sinnermen and many more

Try your hand at Apple Pressing, Apple Printing or learn about the Mythology and Folklore of Apples

Our Vegan Cafe will be serving delicious food and cake. The Bar will be stocked with Trevor’s locally brewed c***r and, of course, our own award winning Apple Juice!

Other activities on offer throughout the event include Morris Dancing, World Music, Poetry (workshops and performances), Kids Disco, Foraging, Bead Bars, Singing Workshops, Sound Baths and Stalls

🌿 Another brilliant day of curiosity, practical learning and collaboration at THRIVE! 💛

We explored disability and inclusion, environmental sustainability and the work of a Green Assistant, before continuing our geology studies with igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks — linking this to our recent King Edward Mine visit. 🪨🌍

Our Thrivelings also developed problem-solving and teamwork skills through a collaborative puzzle challenge, practised Cornish in a playful way and explored new flavours by cooking fried green tomatoes. 🍅🌿

A lovely day of cultural and Cornish learning, science, creativity, practical skills and community. 💛

⛏️🌿 THRIVE FIELD TRIP… 🌿🔨
🔨🌿 KING EDWARD MINE 🌿⛏️

What an incredible day of Cornish heritage, history, science and outdoor learning!

Our Thrivers explored the history of mining and mining communities, learning about family life and the experiences of children working in the mines 150 years ago. We also saw historic machinery in action before getting hands-on with a GCSE-level science investigation into the density of rocks. 🪨🔬

After lunch, we explored the nature trail, giving everyone time to move, explore and connect with the outdoor environment. 🌿

A huge thank you to the wonderful educational team at King Edward Mine Museum for such an engaging and memorable day. ❤️

And our learning doesn’t stop here — we have some follow-up activities planned for next week!

🌿 THRIVE Monday 🪵

A busy day of learning, creativity and practical skills at THRIVE!

We explored Roald Amundsen, exploration and determination, alongside learning about the role of a Beaver Ranger and some fascinating science behind dust devils. 🌪️ This sparked some brilliant discussions around adventure, animals and the natural world.

Our practical project then got underway, with the children working collaboratively to design and create mini fire logs and spinning tops. Measuring, tool use, problem-solving, teamwork and perseverance were all part of the process. 🔥

We also practised the safe use of tools and knives and prepared kindling ready for next week, when we’ll put our fire logs to the test!

Our community rug is almost finished, and we’re looking forward to cooking our special fried green tomatoes next Monday. 🍅

Another day of learning through curiosity, creativity, practical exploration and connection. 🌿❤️

🌿✨ THRIVE FRIDAY ✨🌿

Another wonderful day of creative, cultural and collaborative learning at THRIVE! 💛

We explored astronomy, horse memory and the remarkable story of Johanna Nordblad, before getting creative with our upcycling project, transforming old T-shirts into individual reusable bags. 👕♻️

Our Thrivers also continued weaving our THRIVE community rug, enjoyed a short creative mindfulness activity and celebrated apple season by making apple hedgehogs. 🍎🦔

We finished with Nellie’s TED Talk about Constantine, supporting our ongoing Cornish studies and exploration of Cornish people and culture. 🌿🏴‍☠️

🌿✨ THRIVE MONDAY ✨🌿

A wonderfully varied day of learning, creativity and community! 💛

We explored The Four Chaplains, discovered the world of set design, continued our tectonic plate investigations and brainstormed ideas for future THRIVE fundraising. 🌍🎭

Our Thrivers also worked together to prepare the Apple Barn, cooked organic rhubarb & apple chutney and took part in a fun community-building challenge exploring creativity, awareness and teamwork. 🍎🌿

And then… KARATE! 🥋
A brilliant session with Lauren, including technique, movement and sparring.

Another day of curiosity, collaboration, practical learning and plenty of fun. 💛🌿
