Within the setting we have three rooms - The Baby Room (3 months upwards), The Barn (18 months to 3 years) and The House (Pre-School). Within each room children have access to a wide range of activities including: sand, water and messy play, imaginative role play, creative play, music and movement, puzzles including the recognition of shape and colours, practical number activities, practical life
experiences (freezing, melting, weights and measures), books, stories and computer activities. Children also have opportunities to bake and cook. All children who are ready, will be encouraged to take an interest in the alphabet, counting and recognition of numbers, but the main emphasis of the Nursery will be on social development and activities, which are the building blocks of education. First Class Kids offer fantastic outdoor opportunities. We have 3 areas - The Yard, The Pre-School Garden and The Main Garden. Within each outdoor area are opportunities for mark making (chalk, paint, pens, pencils, etc) sand and water play, digging and music making. Outside there are also a variety of sit and ride toys for children to enjoy. Our all weather 'Jungle Gym' is excellent for climbing and sliding and has a great 'Look out Tower'. The Yard is used as a 'Free Flow' area for the barn , and the Pre-School Garden for the house. This allows the children to access outdoor facilities as and when they wish; whilst being supervised. Throughout the calender year, we like to celebrate festivals around the world including Hannukah, Diwali and Chinese New Year. We often have visits from outside professionals (eg. doctors, paramedics, vets, police) to help the children learn about their role in society. We are closely linked with Calthwaite School as well as others in the local area. We often visit Calthwaite School and Calthwaite Church for celebrations, children's concerts and services.
