Today some of our children took part in a cross country competition organised by Eden Valley Sports Partnership. They all did amazingly well, trying their best and not giving up even though they had a big hill to run up. A special well done to Gina who won her race even though she lost a shoe half way round. Also well done to Coral who ran back up the hill to rescue Gina’s shoe and return to her. I was really proud of all the children today and they did a brilliant job of representing Langwathby School.

🤝 Friendship Matters 🤝

This half term, our whole school worship is focusing on the theme of friendship.

Together, we are exploring questions such as:
✨ What qualities do we look for in our friends?
✨ How can we be a good friend to others?

As a school community, we have been reflecting on what the Bible teaches us about friendship, kindness and encouragement. One of our key verses is:

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up."
1 Thessalonians 5:11

We are encouraging our children to think about how their words and actions can help others feel valued, supported and included. By showing kindness, listening carefully, being trustworthy and encouraging one another, we can all help to build stronger friendships.

Our first art project in Squirrel Class! 🐿️
On Wednesday, we followed tutorials for drawing eyes, noses and mouths. On Thursday, we put it all together and sketched our self-portraits! On Friday, we stuck our portraits onto card and decorated around them with pictures of things that are important to us - favourite things, families, pets and lots more!
Squirrels have created such wonderfully colourful self-portrait posters that have brightened up our classroom already! Miss Houghton is super proud of their positive mindsets and creativity! ⭐️

Thank you to Alison Watson and Cubby Construction for this generous donation.
Mrs Whitfield (Linda) is delighted to have a new digital whiteboard for her phonics and intervention groups.

Supporting the communities in which we work is central to what we do at Cubby Construction, and generating real social value remains a key part of our ethos.

Having recently donated two CTOUCH interactive screens to St Cuthbert's Primary and Nursery School in Wigton, we are pleased to have extended that support to two further schools in Westmorland and Furness Council.

A 55-inch interactive screen was delivered to Langwathby C of E School by Cubby Group Head of HR Alison Watson, pictured with her grandchildren Ollie and Lily.

A second screen, an 86-inch model, was donated and delivered to Claire Tunstall (Teacher), Caroline Jackson (Teaching Assistant) and Annabel Dickinson (Teacher) at Kirkby Stephen Primary School.

Both screens will help bring digital learning to life in the classroom, giving pupils access to modern and engaging technology. It is a small gesture, but one we hope will make a lasting difference to local learners.

🍎 Could your child now qualify for free school meals? Please check! 🍎

You may have seen in the news that free school meals are being extended to around 500,000 more children across England.

From September 2026, every child whose household receives Universal Credit is entitled to free school meals—regardless of household earnings. This includes working families who receive Universal Credit as a top-up.

⚠️ Free school meals are not awarded automatically—you must apply.

Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and already receives a universal infant free meal, please still apply. Registering ensures that your child’s eligibility is properly recorded and may help them, and our school, access further support and funding.

Online applications only take a few minutes.

Apply through Westmorland and Furness Council here:

Please don’t assume that you will not qualify. If you receive Universal Credit, apply and let the council complete the check. We would love every eligible Langwathby family to receive the support to which they are entitled. 💚
