Paper weaving for Year 8 project.

They are going to collect and cut up recycled packaging, paper and card from around the home as well as strips of fabric, yarn and ribbon if they have that.

Use card cut to the right dimensions for one or two side of the box they are making and cut slots to weave through.

Differentiation is by outcome, some can do simple under one/ over one weaving and explore colour and texture; others can use the guide to create complex patterns.

Year 8 paper weaving.
I’m setting this as one of the decorative elements for my box project.
But they could do more of it over a few weeks and experiment with different weaving patterns.
Using recycled packets, paper, card or painted paper; fabrics strips, yarn and ribbon, lots of colour and texture can be explored.

A nice little project or part of a bigger project: home made stamps with found objects.

I’m doing it as part of my Year 8 project this term. They have already looked at Kandinsky as one of their artists and done some drawing and collaging inspired by his work.

Drawing with fabric today, preparing for Year 11 pre A-Level project next term.

I haven’t quite stuck to the brief because I’m using a landscape from my travels as inspiration, but trying to use a variety of pattern, colour and texture to create a tactile piece. I’m off to start stitching now!

I finished my up-cycle; women’s jeans into a child’s pinafore dress. There was enough fabric to make an adults size or teenagers if you wanted to make that.

I am trying to piece together a tutorial video, and will post it when I have finished.

This will be an option for my Year 9 distance learning project next term.

If only I could get my daughter to try it on...

Hi, I’ve been making power points for my Year 8 box project today and am half way through another up-cycle. This time turning my old jeans into a child’s pinafore dress.

Here is a video I made the other day while Art Journaling. I’m thinking of setting this as a project for my Year 11’s pre- A-level project.

I am also practising my video editing skills... they still need some work...

I’ve been busy recycling jeans today.

This is for my Year 9 project; as part of a bigger theme ‘Fruit & Flowers’. They have already sampled different processes and will be embellishing their up-cycle with fruit and flowers in many different ways.

This could be used as a mini-project on its own for half a term. It would also be suitable
for Year 10.

It’s a great distance learning project as they just need old jeans, these could be any size. They will need a sewing machine though.

Well a lot has changed since I last posted on here-again!
Now teaching Textiles - finally! I've had a rare sewing day today to prepare for next term. I'm so lucky to get to sew and teach it for a living.
Experimenting with machine stitching to create texture and bought an embellisher home to practise with!
