💫 Weekly Round Up – The HomeSkool Hub 💫

What a wonderful week we’ve had inside our community! 💛

One of the things I love most about The Hub is how learning happens naturally through curiosity, conversation and shared inspiration. Last week was a perfect example of that when one of our lovely members, reminded us that it was Dinosaur Day! 🦖

That sparked a whole host of dinosaur-themed activities, AQA Unit Award idea and learning opportunities that families could dip into and enjoy together.

We also shared a selection of upcoming themed days to inspire learning adventures throughout June and July, including:

🌊 World Oceans Day
🕊️ World Refugee Day
☀️ Celebration of the Solstice
☄️ International Asteroid Day
🌍 World Youth Skills Day
🐅 International Tiger Day
🤝 International Day of Friendship

These little prompts often lead to some of the most engaging and memorable learning experiences!

✨ Exciting News! ✨

We officially announced our new partnership with the Arts Award programme, giving young people aged 4–25 the opportunity to work towards nationally recognised arts qualifications alongside their home education journey.

Our weekly Learner Chill & Chats also continued, providing a relaxed space for young people to connect, socialise, and build friendships. These now take place every Wednesday and Friday at 2pm.

But beyond the resources, courses, awards and activities, what makes it truly special is the community itself.

Last week reminded me once again just how supportive, encouraging and kind our members are. Whether celebrating successes, sharing ideas or helping each other through difficult moments, this really is a village that cares.

Calling All Home Educators!🤩 A Fashion Designer Among Us! A Peek Inside the HomeSkool Hub ✨

Have you ever wondered what happens inside the HomeSkool Hub at Learning Hotspots? Let me give you a little peek behind the scenes 👀💛

Each week, many learners choose to take part in creative, curriculum-linked projects AQA Unit Awards that are designed to build confidence, independence and real-world skills - all while having fun and exploring their interests!

Learners don’t just focus on 'getting work done' - they focus on learning through doing. That might be art, design, writing, problem-solving or practical projects that allow young people to express themselves in unique and exciting ways 🎨🧠✨

One brilliant example this week was a Fashion Design Unit 👗👠

This learner absolutely smashed it - creating:
🎨 A beautifully designed A3 cover page
👗 A fashion collage inspired by personal style
👠 Original shoe designs (love them!)
✨ Four full outfit concepts
🖍️ A detailed final outfit design
🧵 Thoughtful annotations explaining fabrics, colours and materials
🏷️ A brand-new fashion logo
📝 A full evaluation of their work

The creativity, effort and imagination in this submission were incredible - a true example of what can happen when young people are given space to explore their talents 🌟

Georgina's (Age 11) Words of Wisdom

I just wanted to share some beautiful words from one of our amazing learners during our Wednesday Chill & Chat session (and we’ve got some equally brilliant words from Caspian coming soon too!).

In a world that can sometimes feel full of conflict and division, our young people often have the simplest and wisest way of reminding us what truly matters 💛

Georgina said, “No matter how big or small you are, and how different you are, you should always feel happy and loved.”

It’s been such a lovely, uplifting week inside our community and I just wanted to share a little glimpse of what’s been happening 💛

From proud mummy moments (including a 5K run for cancer research 🏃‍♀️ and competition wins 🏆), to creative evenings with diamond art and relaxing self-care wins - our families are really doing amazing things with their home educating!

We’ve been absolutely blown away by the variety of submissions coming in this half term - here’s just a small snapshot of the fantastic work taking place:

🍄 Exploring the science and lore of fairy rings

From life skills like cooking and laundry, to outdoor learning, creativity, and even a bit of music - it’s been so nice to see learners building such a wide range of skills ✨

We Have A Winner Among Us! 🏅✍️🌟

We’re excited to celebrate one of our HomeSkool Hub learners who has won a writing competition and had his story published in the Young Writers ‘Ghost Stories’ book! 👏📖

This amazing achievement came from a piece he completed as part of the AQA Unit Award 81192 Literacy: Creative Writing (Unit 1) a lovely example of how creativity, dedication and the right support can lead to exciting success.

We are so proud of what he has accomplished and hope this inspires other young people to believe in their own ideas and abilities.

This Week’s AQA Superstar! 💪

Take a look at this guy! 🏋️ He’s working hard towards his ‘Keeping Fit’ AQA Unit Award. With his new fitness bar, he’s been taking part in a variety of activities, completing at least three different fitness-related exercises and performing a minimum of 10 minutes of continuous cardiovascular training as part of his journey to achieving the award.

These are such important life skills that will support him in building strong physical and mental health. We’re so proud of his dedication and what a fantastic example he’s setting for others! 💪
