This week, our Year 4 class started their new book: Varmints.

They read a letter from the secret gardener and arrived to find flowers left in the classroom!🪷

The children dissected the flowers and tried to identify the different parts. They also wrote noun phrases to describe a scene in the book and made predictions about the text.

Day 1: Cambridge 🎓

Choosing the right university is a major decision - academically, personally, and for future careers. That’s why we start supporting our students with their university journey from Day One of Sixth Form.

This week, our Year 12 students are experiencing some of the world’s leading universities first-hand, helping them explore their options, broaden their ambitions and make informed choices about what comes next.

Day 1 took them to University of Cambridge. After an early start from Penarth, they arrived energised and excited to explore the historic city and tour university colleges, stepping inside one of the world’s leading academic environments and getting a feel for what life as a Cambridge undergraduate could be like.

For Westbourne students, university exploration is part of our genuinely global curriculum. During their time with us, they'll have the opportunity to:

A close-up look at eyes in Year 4 Art this week 👀

As part of their self-portrait topic, the children took a closer look at each other’s eyes before drawing their own in detail. They explored the different colours and patterns in the iris, and experimented with shading and detail to make their drawings look as realistic as possible.

A great exercise in observation, concentration and artistic detail!

It’s been a fantastic first week back for Westbourne Prep, with the children keen to get straight back into their reading books!

The pupils have been building on the reading, writing and English practice they’ve been doing over the summer. Year 3 have been exploring different types of nouns in 'Leon and the Place Between', whilst Year 4 have begun 'The Unforgettable' by Kwame Alexander, exploring powerful language and imagery and developing their performance skills.

An exciting start to the term, with plenty more reading, learning and discovery to come!📚

And with that, we’re back!

It’s been a busy start to the new school year, not least for our new boarders, who join us from across the globe. They’ve received a very warm Westbourne welcome and have been busy settling in and enjoying their induction week.

As part of this, students headed to the famous National Museum of Wales to discover more about the history of Wales - spending time together and beginning to build the friendships that will carry them through their Westbourne journey.

Our international community deeply enriches school life, bringing different perspectives, experiences and cultures. Welcome to all our new students! 🌍👋
