I am an engaging, warm and encouraging private tutor with eight years of experience tutoring around the country and hold both a BA (2014) and MA (2017) from King's College London in English Literature and Medieval Studies respectively. Outside of tutoring I maintain a personal research and writing practice, and produce public lectures in the fields of literary, historical, and cultu

I like to foster a creative and exploratory approach to English that is solidly grounded in the curriculum, but that also goes beyond the scope of the classroom to ensure that each of my students stand out and shine in both their writing and in class. This method involves sharing ideas and research in literary theory and linguistics, considering context in dynamic ways, and offering nuanced perspectives on texts that spark excitement. It is because of this that I have been successful in encouraging previously reluctant students to engage with English at both GCSE and A-level. I believe in the transformative power of literature and teach it as a tool through which young people can discover themselves and the world we live in. I enjoy creating long lasting relationships with my clients, and promote a collaborative, flexible and personal teaching dynamic. I try to avoid rigid 'tutor' and 'student' definitions in order to create a relaxed environment where working together critically and creatively is key. Teaching methods and services:
As a tutor I like to begin with an initial consultation stage where my client and I can discuss learning needs and collaboratively plan methods and outcomes for our sessions. I tailor individual lesson plans for each of my students with emphasis on areas that require improvement: comprehension, essay writing, close reading, exam skills, etc. I offer online and in-person lessons to GCSE and A-Level English students and maintain a literature specialism. I've been using online platforms since I began tutoring in 2013 and use a digital workbook as a collaborative teaching tool. I create an online document for each of my students and this document is a work in progress between my student and I. Together we work on in-depth analyses of texts (AO1, AO2), essay planning and writing, contextual knowledge (AO3), connections between texts (AO4), and snapshots from critical research on their text (AO5). Come exam/ assignment writing time at the end of the year, this document functions as a personal revision guide tailored to each student's interests, skills and learning level. I am experienced in the WJEC, AQA, and OCR specifications, and have tutored internationally in the American college system. I provide editing and proofreading and give detailed feedback on essay drafts. I have solid experience in the university application and personal statement writing process and have helped numerous students make that exciting leap into higher education.
