Amy's Acorns Childminding

Prior to childminding I have completed a Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies with a BA Hons in Social Inclusion. I also worked in an infant school for 7 years as a Learning Support Assistant, where I worked with all ages and abilities. I gained a lot of experience in the Foundation Phase during these 7 years which helps me greatly in my job as a Childminder. I have completed the ‘CYPOP5 – Understand how to set up a homebased childcare service’ course. This course covered:

Setting up a home-based childcare service in Wales

Establishing a safe and healthy environment

Working with parents

Developing routines

Play and activities to support equality and inclusion in line with the areas of learning of the Foundation Phase

Safeguarding children

Supporting positive behaviour

I am trained in Paediatric First Aid which I will renew every three years. I will keep up to date on any other training that will further develop my knowledge which will in turn benefit the children within my care. In the case of an emergency I have two emergency backup adults who are available in case of an emergency. These are my husband Paul Jonker and another CSSIW registered childminder Amanda Davies. I will always have permission from the parents to seek emergency aid for their child.

My Service

I am registered to care for a maximum of 6 children under 12 years of age:

· Of these 6 no more than 3 can be under full time school age

· Of these 3 no more than 2 can be under 18 months (although some exceptions may be made for siblings)

My daughter will need to be included in these ratios.

I provide a healthy breakfast for the children but ask that parents pack a healthy lunch and dinner for their child plus snacks. I also ask that parents provide nappies, wipes and formula/milk.

My main school run will be to Cosheston VC School however I am willing to travel to other schools if this fits in with times and number of children etc.

I will arrange a settling in period for each child which will best suit you, your child and myself. I will discuss and agree a contract for the children with you, and you will sign and have a copy of the contract to keep. I also have a range of policies, procedures and permission forms that are important for you to read and understand. You will have copies of all these policies sent to you via email and print outs are available on request.
