Path Hill Outdoors Path Hill Outdoors is a not for profit organisation delivering exciting outdoor education programmes to schools, youth groups and individuals.

We're a small organisation with a dedicated, experienced staff team, based on a converted farm within beautiful beech woods, close to the River Thames. Our Approach on Our Re-engagement Programmes:

We think that when people have opportunities to take responsibility, to be treated with respect and to have their feelings supported and their frustrations attended to, then they can learn effectively.

In working with young people, instead of using punishment or extrinsic reward systems, we use non-aversive strategies, understanding why a young person is behaving in challenging ways, and teaching them more appropriate ways to meet their needs. Why We Work with Young People:

Government figures show a surge in the number of 16-18 year olds not in school, college or work in England. The social effects of this are enormous. Compared to national averages, truants and excluded children are 3 times more likely to develop a mental illness, and more than twice as likely to commit crimes and take drugs. The direct financial implications of disengagement are monumental. The average persistent truant costs society £44,000 and the total costs of persistent truants is £800 million per annum. Children with complex needs or who have difficulty accessing the curriculum, often fall outside of the current sphere of state school provision. With nobody taking responsibility for these young people, Path Hill Outdoors offers that role.

The students have had an amazing time paddleboarding, canoeing, swimming, and making a splash jumping from the pontoon. To top it all off, they were even joined by a family of beautiful mandarin ducks! 🦆 ☀️
