First full week back in schools and it was a busy one.
This week the activities have been focussed on fine motor skills. Lots of fun creative activities that get our fingers moving and help with hand eye co-ordination . 🧵🧶
Beads, threading small objects, papier mache , wrapping yarn all of these are fun ways that help children’s fine motor skills.

🎨 Behind the Scenes at Picture This Paisley

Meaningful art sessions don’t just happen.

Behind every session is planning, research, creativity, problem-solving and lots of trial and error. 💭🎨

I spend hours researching new ideas, creating bespoke resources and then developing, changing and adapting them so they work for different pupils, abilities and interests.

And then comes the fun part… putting the ideas into practice! 😊

Over the past 3 days, I’ve delivered art sessions to 42 pupils — working in small groups and 1-to-1 sessions.

Together we have:

🎨 Painted
🍎 Made papier-mâché fruit
🧵 Designed fabric bunting
📦 Created tiny matchbox creations
🐱 Made cardboard cats
📿 Designed bracelets
🐍 Made bead snakes
✂️ Experimented, changed ideas and tried again

And behind the scenes I’ve also…

🧹 Tidied up — many, many times! 😂
📝 Written reports
📅 Created timetables
🧠 Reflected on what worked
🔄 Adapted resources
📸 Taken photos
…and most importantly, had lots of fun! ❤️

This is why I believe ART MATTERS.

It isn’t just about the finished piece.

It’s about giving children opportunities to explore, make choices, solve problems, develop skills, express themselves and experience the pride of creating something of their own.

Every session is a process:

IDEA → DEVELOP → TRY → CHANGE → REFLECT → LEARN

And that’s the work that happens behind the scenes.

Sometimes the most powerful moment in an art session isn’t the finished artwork.

It’s watching a child who initially says “I can’t do it” gradually become absorbed in creating.

Then hearing:

“Look what I made!”

That moment matters.

Because creativity gives children opportunities to take risks, make choices and experience success.

That’s why Picture This Paisley exists.
