We are approaching the exam period in a matter of months ... pupils shouldn't leave it any later to up their application if they want to achieve their potential!
To try and lower the cost of tuition for parents/guardians I will include two extra sessions if you book and pay for ten sessions up front.
Most questions are answered below but feel free to reach out if you want to ask anything else.
WHO AM I?
Hi, I am Billy.
I am a thirty-eight year old qualified Mathematics teacher who offers tuition, primarily, from my home office.
I live with my fiancée and young family in the ‘West End’ of Paisley (my two boys sometimes pop by sessions, briefly, to say "Hi!" and be nosey!).
I was born in Paisley and went to West Primary School followed by Castlehead High School. When I left school in 2005 I then attended Strathclyde University to study Mathematics with Teaching. I graduated with honours in 2009 with Merit in teaching.
WHAT MAKES ME ABLE TO TUTOR MATHS?
I spent the majority of my twenties teaching secondary level Mathematics and I am comfortable tutoring any level of Mathematics up to Higher.
My experience includes:
• completing my probationary year at Paisley Grammar School (August 2009-June 2010)
• working between two local SEN schools for nine months covering maternity leave (August 2010-April 2011)
• a few weeks general supply for Renfrewshire Council (May 2011)
• maternity cover for nine months in Houston (May 2011 – February 2012)
• working in a successful secondary school in Bishopbriggs from 2012 until my career break started
• correcting Maths exams for the SQA at National 5 level (Credit/Intermediate 2) (2013 to 2024)
I continue to be a GTCS associate and maintain my registration with the professional teaching body annually.
Following bereavement I embarked on a career break (2017 - 2019). In this time, I ended up making a few changes in my life and decided to embrace self-employment. I took the opportunity to convert our integrated garage into an office - this space is now tailored towards tuition.
HOW DOES A TUITION SESSION WORK?
Bring along your Mathematics books and equipment to the office - we'll use them along with our tech and screens to aid your progress! – DON’T FORGET A PENCIL!
I welcome both the person to be tutored and their parent/guardian to the office during sessions – parents normally enjoy reading a book they have brought along or catch up with emails on their phone.
If supported, I give students a little bit of homework for their next visit.
I feel face to face tuition is most beneficial but have the facilities to tutor online too - in this case, I would encourage you to have a visualiser for maximum benefit.
COST
Fifty Five minutes tuition at our office is £50.
I am happy to travel to another location for tutoring but will factor travel time into the price for your session. To give yourself an idea of additional cost, find the time it takes to travel from PA1 2DR to and from your post code and then apply this pro rota to the hourly rate.
PAYMENT
Bank transfer or cash.
AVAILABILITY
Tutoring normally takes place after school from 4:30pm onwards.
I offer sessions at times that minimise disruption to my children’s bed time routine.
If your child has free periods during the school day I can normally arrange a time for then.
ENQUIRIES
In your enquiry, please include who the tuition is for and give as many details as you think important.
PARKING
Adjacent to the entrance of the office is our driveway where you are welcome to park whilst attending.
FACILITIES
Toilet facilities are available at the back of the office.
CANCELLATION
If you cancel an arranged session then you will pay for half of it on top of your next visit.
If I cancel an arranged session I will offer, at half price, various days and times to replace the session.
