📖 My Story 📖
I thought I’d get a little bit personal today and share my story. 😊
These are my wonderful children, Erin, 15 and Gwyn, 12. I trained as a teacher when Erin was 7 months old and then worked two roles in the school I was in, Teaching and Learning Mentor. This meant I worked across the school and I loved it. 😊
Without going into all the details, the school changed drastically after COVID and was no longer a happy place to be for anyone. The work life balance was nonexistent, even working 3 days a week, as my Learning Mentor role had been made redundant. I needed something that gave me joy and worked around my children (I’ve been a single mum since my children were tiny), giving me more flexibility but I still wanted an element of education because ultimately, there is great value in it.
I thought about setting up my own business around reading but then found Story Sense. It was a ready made business that I could jump into a get the support I needed to get started. 😅
I took a leap of faith. Found a Teaching Assistant role just to fill the gap while I set up and then worked Story Sense alongside the TA role, as well as picking up a bit of tutoring. My tutoring really took off so left the TA role and took on Story Sense full time. 😁 I’m busy, and there is a lot of admin involved but I do it in my time, I can coffee break with friends, spend time with my children, without the dreaded loom of marking, planning, ticking unrealistic boxes and the constant feeling that you are failing children because there aren’t enough of you or the resources you need.
Story Sense is a job I’m now passionate about and genuinely wouldn’t swap for the world. 🥰 And I’m really excited to see where I can take it now that I am the Franchisor. 😁
Onwards and upwards. 💪🏻 Things can only get better from here. 😊
And thank you for taking the time to read. 😉😊

An inspiring story. 😊 Sometimes things happen to make us change course in life. And then, if you really aim for the stars, you’ll get there. ✨
Last December, life forced me to slow down.
I was in the middle of one of the busiest months of my life—moving house, juggling work, and trying to keep everything together—when one day, my vision suddenly became strange. A trip to the opticians revealed that my retina had detached, and I needed emergency surgery.
The recovery was long, painful, and honestly, quite overwhelming. I was off work for eight weeks, and during that time, I had a lot of space to think about my life, my priorities, and what truly mattered.
I realised I had been relying on my mum far too much, and the long hours working at the nursery meant I wasn’t spending enough time with my own children. That was a difficult truth to face, but it gave me the push I needed.
So, I took the leap and committed to running Story Sense full-time.
It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I can drop my children off at school, pick them up, enjoy evenings together, and even have the flexibility to take school holidays off. I choose my hours, the sessions I run, and where I work. Most importantly, I have so much more precious time with my babies.
I feel less stressed, more fulfilled, and incredibly grateful for the freedom this journey has given me.
Sometimes, it takes a difficult experience to remind you that your health comes first, and that it’s okay to choose a life that makes you happy.
A few weeks ago, I had my latest check-up, and I’m so relieved to say that my retina has fully reattached. I’ve now been discharged from specialist care, and all that’s left is to wait over the next few months to see how much my eyesight improves.
Here’s to health, happiness, and taking chances. 💛

📚Tiny Tales Tip📚
Reading with your child every day, even just for 10 minutes, makes a massive difference. 🤩🥰
Hearing stories helps little ones develop language skills, build their attention span and spark their imagination. 🤩
Point to pictures, repeat sounds and let them turn the pages. 📖 It’s all part of learning. 🧐
That’s why we always have books at the back of the class. 😊 Whether your child just wants to explore or they want you to sit and read, there’s always time for books here at Story Sense. 🥰📚
Tap the ❤️ if your child loves to read. 📖🥰
