Sometimes, the learning environment can make the biggest difference to a child's education. 🎓

In this video, Rebecca Wright, one of our Student Progress Managers, shares the story of a student whose anxiety made accessing mainstream education increasingly difficult. By moving to a learning environment that better met her needs, she was able to rebuild confidence, feel safe, and begin developing a more positive relationship with learning and education. ✍️

For many young people experiencing school avoidance, attending school can feel overwhelming due to anxiety, sensory challenges, social pressures, or other emotional barriers.

During School Avoidance Awareness Week, we're helping to raise awareness and highlight the importance of finding the right support for every child.

For some families, homeschooling offers a fresh start, providing the flexibility, personalised approach, and calmer learning environment needed to help students rebuild confidence and reconnect with learning.

IGCSEs are easier than GCSEs? 🤔

FALSE! It's a common misconception...

IGCSEs and GCSEs are equivalent qualifications, held in equal regard by schools, colleges, universities, and employers around the world. 🌎

Both qualifications are studied at the same academic level, assess similar subject knowledge and skills, and provide the same progression routes into A Levels, further education and future careers.

Where does the confusion come from?

IGCSEs were originally developed for international students, whilst GCSEs were for those studying in UK schools. While there can be differences in course content, assessment style, and exam boards - IGCSEs aren’t an ‘easier’ option, just a different one.

Students are challenged to develop the same critical thinking, analytical and subject-specific skills expected at GCSE level.

At Wolsey Hall Oxford, we support many students studying IGCSEs both here in the UK, and in 130 countries across the world.

The most important thing isn’t whether a student studies a GCSE or an IGCSE. It’s finding qualification that supports their learning, and their needs. 🙏
