History at Mansfield: tracing the past - Mansfield College From our earliest scholars to today’s historians, History has been woven into Mansfield’s story from the beginning. Across generations, our community has explored the past, challenged perspectives, and uncovered new ways of understanding the world around us.

What do aeroplane engines, flexible electronics, clean energy technologies, medical implants and water quality sensors have in common? They all rely on Materials Science - the study of how the structure, properties, and performance of materials can be understood and engineered to solve real-world problems. At Mansfield, the subject has grown from its origins in metallurgy into a thriving interdisciplinary field that is helping to shape the technologies of the future.
