New College mourns the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
We ended Trinity 2022 in a week packed with sports day, the Year 8 Shakespeare reading under the Harry Potter tree in New College, Oxford, the leavers' concert, the pre-prep play and prizegiving. Well done, all, on your brilliant achievements throughout the term, and enjoy your well-deserved summer break! πππ
With the beautiful, and apt, globe by Luke Jerram turning overhead, Year 8 returned to the pre-pandemic venue of University Church of St Mary the Virgin, Oxford for their leavers' concert. It was a heartening celebration of the talents which they have developed during their time at NCS. Well done, all!
Huge thanks to Sir Robert McAlpine for an excellent masterclass. Year 8 learned all about the stages of building design and construction involved in the New College, Oxford Gradel Quadrangles project, the different roles in the construction industry, and designed and built their own towers!

Our latest Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report has been published, and we're delighted the school has again been rated as βexcellentβ in all areas -- the highest grading possible. Alongside the usual buzz of school activity, we've enjoyed a host of performances to bring Hilary term to a close. From the spring concert and poetry recitals in Pre-Prep, and the Year 5 and 6 French play, to the first gig by the Year 7 and 8 band, and a beautiful Words and Music service in New College Chapel. Well done, all, on your fantastic efforts this term. Enjoy your well-deserved break, and we'll see you back in Trinity!

New College School Foundation Stone
On Wednesday 16 March, a memorable moment in the progress of the new Gradel Quad was reached as the Chaplain blessed the foundation stone of the school at a special service.
The school service was attended by pupils, teachers, parents and donors, who heard addresses from the Senior Tutor and the Warden, highlighting the long interconnected history of School and College. The stone will be laid in place by the Warden on Wykeham Day in June.
We've had a brilliant time celebrating with the NCS SHTEAM Festival! The children have enjoyed looking at 'the natural world' in all areas of the curriculum, with workshops on invertebrates, evolution, falconry and fossils; talks from experts in primatology, palaeontology, glaciers, historic gardens and conservation; and visits to New College, Oxford, University of Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum, and Oxford University Museum of Natural History ππ¨βπ¬π¦

This year's SHTEAM festival on 'the natural world' kicked off today, with a visit from the excellent Millets Farm Falconry Centre. Pupils were fascinated to hear the story of the owl's call, and how vultures help with wildlife conservation!
We've had a wonderful , sharing our favourite writers, illustrators, stories and characters, playing literary quizzes in the Library and, of course, dressing up (including the SLT!)
At the close of charity week the boys have totted up the takings from their fundraising activities, including cake sales, magic shows, and the toilet-themed 'chicken chuck', and have raised almost Β£800 for Toilet Twinning. Well done, all!
Year 2 hopped around the corner to Oxford University Museum of Natural History for a fascinating workshop on skeletons. They learnt all about the different types and functions of skeletons, and then searched for examples throughout the museum!

Year 1 had a great time at Oxford Castle & Prison yesterday, where they climbed the tower, explored the crypt, and learnt all about the fascinating history of the castle and prison!

Congratulations to former chorister, Hugh Cutting on winning first prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards!
Having been a chorister at New College, Hugh went on to St John's College, Cambridge where he was a choral scholar, and then to the Royal College of Music.
Hugh is the first ever countertenor to win this extremely prestigious award.
