Well done to everyone who took part in the Eco Club's clothes swap yesterday. What a fantastic initiative to combat the environmental impact of the fashion industry. ๐
It was so successful that plans are already underway to hold another next term. So when you have that post-Christmas clear out, don't forget to put aside any clothes and accessories that might have a second life with a new owner. ๐๐๐๐

Today is Buy Nothing Day founded in 1992 by a Canadian artist as a pushback against Black Friday and the global problem of overconsumption.
The d'Overbroeck's Eco Club have an alternative solution to the problem of waste in the textiles industry, and next Thursday will be their clothes swap event. ๐๐๐๐
Students have been donating all their clothes and accessories they no longer wear, which will hopefully be given a new lease of life.

Meet Elena, one of our Sixth Form Academic Scholars at dโOverbroeckโs. She's studying a broad variety of A-Level subjects: German, History, Maths and Classical Civilisation. She's also doing an Extended Project Qualification.๐๏ธ๐ฉ๐ช๐๐
"For me, the best part about being in the Sixth Form is having a Director of Studies. The first couple of weeks can be very stressful, as you have to settle in, get to know your teachers and overcome the gap between GCSEs and A-levels. Having my DoS by my side during these challenging first few weeks was invaluable for me as he supported me through all the difficulties I faced, both academically and socially. It feels so good to have someone who you can share all your concerns with, and whatโs great about your DoS is that they are not only interested in your academic success but mostly in your happiness and well-being!" ๐ค

"I have really enjoyed spending my time in the Arts Centre as my teachers have helped me to explore things in a different way and taught me new techniques and skills that I had never tried before. I have especially enjoyed Textiles as we have been taught how to make screen prints, use the heat press and many more skills that would help us in our future pieces or garments." ๐ค

Today is Make a Difference Day. It's about recognising the small actions we can all take to improve the world for someone else.
The half term break gives our students a great opportunity to think about the little things they can do which will make a big difference for someone else or for the planet. ๐ค ๐
One thing we encourage our Sixth Form students to do next week is have a wardrobe clear out. On 10 November our Eco Club will be running a clothes swap. Every item donated will earn a token, which can then be used to โpurchaseโ something else at the swap. ๐๐๐ฉณ๐๐ Itโs a fantastic way of reducing the impact of the fashion industry on the environment.
Let us know if youโve found other ways to Make a Difference during half term. And to give some inspiration, here are some photos of last year's Children in Need efforts! ๐งธ

Meet Maksim, one of our Sixth Form Sport Scholars at d'Overbroeck's. Ice hockey is his main passion, but he balances this with applying himself to his A-level study in Double Maths, Physics and Computer Science. He hopes to go to university in the USA and play for one of the clubs in the NHL. ๐โ๏ธ๐ป
"As well as having a Director of Studies, my Scholarship Supervisor supports me as a scholar, helping me with time management and study issues. Being a Sport Scholar at d'Overbroeck's is hard work, but I get lots of support and am really happy doing it." ๐ค

This afternoon weโll be waving our students off on their half term break ๐ and what a half term itโs been!
The students have loved their new Arts Centre ๐จ; our sporting fixtures calendar has been action packed ๐; our ongoing partnership with the Oxford Chamber Music Festival has been another successful year ๐ผ; and of course the halls have been filled with joy as our students have embraced the return to dโOverbroeckโs school life with their peers and teachers โจ
We had record breaking numbers at our first physical Open Day in almost two years, which is a testament to how well our students and staff represent our ethos and make it a great school to join. Straight after that we had the long-anticipated ISI inspection, and we look forward to sharing their findings with you as soon as theyโre published ๐ฃ
So now itโs time to relax and recharge for a while, have a spook-tacular Halloween ๐, and we canโt wait to see you all again in November! ๐ค

So much sports news recently ๐โโ๏ธ๐๐ดโโ๏ธ๐คธโโ๏ธ๐พ... our d'Overbroeck's students are a talented bunch! So here's a quick round up of just a few of the recent successes. ๐ฃ
โจ Lots of athletics events and students of all ages smashing their PBs. Lewie in Y8 came first in the U13 boys 800m race at Tilsley Park, with a fantastic run which took 5 seconds off his previous best. ๐ฅ
โจ Sixth Former Fionn qualified for the U20s National Championships in the 400m hurdles. His new PB of 56.72s puts him 16th in the UK in the U20s. ๐
โจ Billy, also in the Sixth Form, recently came 6th in shotput at English schools, throwing 14.45m at a meet at Loughborough University, which means he is currently ranked 12th in the UK for shotput amongst U20s. ๐
โจ Ben from our Tennis Academy played a grade 5 under 18s singles tournament at North Oxford Tennis Club. After reaching the semi-finals where he played the 2nd seed of the tournament, he won the final set with 10-5 in a tiebreaker, putting him through to the final.
After winning the first set 4-1, he unfortunately lost the second and then the tiebreaker for the match, but he still finished the tournament as runner up, which is a fantastic achievement. ๐
โจ And finally, you may have seen that earlier in the year, Sixth Form Sport Scholar Natasha and her partner competed at the World Championships for Acrobatic Gymnastics in Geneva. They finished 5th overall in two of their routines, despite this being their first time competing together.
She was delighted to find out they've been selected again to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Italy at the beginning of October! ๐
Phew, we are in awe at the incredible work you've all put in. Well done everyone! ๐๐๐

At dโOverbroeckโs International School, we will help you to prepare for academic and social success in the British education system. In a small, caring atmosphere, our specialist teachers will help you to improve your spoken and written English and teach you a full range of academic subjects.
If you are 15-16 years old, you can join our one year GCSE programme which will prepare you for success at A Level or IB, either carrying on at dโOverbroeckโs or at your choice of further school, and then on to university. Whichever course you join, we will help you achieve your full potential and move on to a bright future.
Like the rest of dโOverbroeckโs, we are more relaxed and informal than a traditional school. Students call their teachers by their first names, wear a โlight touchโ uniform and do not have to attend chapel or take part in traditional team games. However, the academic rigour of our courses and the high standards of pastoral care here are second to none.
Additionally, students will benefit from living and studying in our wonderful facilities here in the centre of Oxford. Living in Oxford is an exciting experience and we will help you to get the most out of it, taking part in activities across the whole school with the British students and joining in the wider life of this world-famous university city.
You are welcome to visit any time and I look forward to meeting you and showing you the school.
