What incredible timing to be blessed with this gem of a donation! Special thanks to Bill Dinning (2013, DPhil Medieval and Modern Languages (FRE)) for his generosity.

So grateful to Nora, our work experience student this year who put together this great display highlighting our collection of Very Short Introductions - a fantastic series for dipping your toe into wider subject areas than your chosen studies.
If you know any secondary school pupils who might be looking for a work experience placement next academic year, or have any questions about a career in Librarianship, we are always happy to inspire a new generation of Library lovers.

🔥Damaged book 🔥
At the Old Library here at St Edmund Hall we have around 4,500 books and some have had some mishaps along the way.
This is a copy of the ‘Codex canonum vetus ecclesiae Romanae’ published in Paris in 1609.
Leaves G2-H3have been damaged by fire but we don’t actually know what happened. One theory is that a previous owner might have attempted to burn away objectionable marginalia.
There is also some damage from damp and worm.
You can view this item by making appointment. Contact the library to arrange a visit to view this book or any other items we have in the Old Library.

The British artist David Hockney has sadly died today at the age of 88. Pictured is a facsimile reproduction of one of Hockney’s sketchbooks from the summer of 1982 titled Martha’s Vineyard and other places. His third sketchbook of 1982, it contains a range of works he drew while travelling between Paris, New York and Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massachusetts.
Our copy, kindly donated to the College Library, contains three additional drawings. This drawing, an original self-portrait drawn by Hockney, is found in the blank pages at the back of the book.
