A digital slice of my yoga life

First teaching of 2024 — a shared private for two family members who wanted a restorative yoga practice.

I love all the teaching I do, the energy of a full studio practising vinyasa is great, meditation and mindfulness can bring up some powerful stuff which is wonderful to witness, but offering a quiet practice of relaxation and coming home to yourself is soooo special. We all need it! ❤️

Breathing in the new year 06/01/2024

I travelled a long way over the holiday period. I mean that literally, though it might also be true metaphorically as staying with family is often a time of heightened emotions, awareness of our interconnectedness and of the brief span of human lives -- and how we love to complicate them! But actually I’m simply referring to my first long haul flight since before Covid, flying to the opposite side of the planet to see family after some years apart....

Twixmas — or whatever you call this time between Xmas and NYE— is the perfect time for taking some rest. It can feel as though the world has stopped, so don’t be in a hurry to start it up again.

Take just five minutes in a restorative pose like this, nowhere to go, nothing to do.

When you’re ready you can carry on with your day, or perhaps extend the time with yourself in some reflections on the past year and an acknowledgement of your experiences, your learning and the direction you’re moving towards.

Just give yourself a moment. You deserve it. It’s the gift only you can offer to yourself.

My 9 year old niece has a Christmas homework assignment to create a yoga flow sequence.

Just waiting for her to ask me for some help 😁

Autumn = Fall This year I have been meeting weekly with a group of students who mostly live in the US and I love how they talk about this season as ‘the fall’. In my ears the word is so evocative. The trees shed…

Autumn’s here!

For me autumn is the season above all that reminds me of the need for self care.

I feel lower in energy and mood as the season shifts. There are many little gestures of patience and kindness that I can show myself which really help!

Of course restorative yoga is part of that. Next online class is happening October 23 if you need this too ❤️

Autumn’s coming! I feel as though I’ve been bottling sunshine and smiles this weekend to keep me feeling bright as the light changes and the days get shorter.

Yoga (especially when you’re doing it at home) doesn’t need to be fancy!

Sometimes simple movements are the best way to shift your state from fatigued and tense to nice and relaxed or quietly energised.

Trust that doing less can bring good things . That trust comes from trying it out for yourself and noticing how you feel.
