A new report on America’s Overseas Voters: 2016’s Forgotten Constituency?, co-authored by Halbert Jones and Patrick Andelic, has been released. Earlier this year, the RAI published a report highlighting the impact overseas voters could have in a tight election. This study triggered widespread discussion in the U.S. and international media and helped to prompt a major overseas voter registration drive by the online pressure group Avaaz. The new report develops that analysis considerably, providing a more detailed look at US states where the result is most likely to be influenced by overseas voters, the profile of the population of overseas voters from a key swing state, and some of the countries in which overseas voters reside. In particular, this report highlights that in certain key swing states – where polling suggests the race is particularly tight – the results could hinge on just a few thousand overseas votes. It can be accessed at http://www.rai.ox.ac.uk/voters

With the entire world waiting for the American people to pick their next Commander and Chief, the stakes are high. The candidates for President of the United States have presented what seems like contrasting visions for U.S. foreign policy. But is U.S. foreign policy really so malleable that one single person can dramatically change course, even if President?
Join Ambassador (Ret.) Derek Shearer to discuss the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections and what is at stake from a foreign policy perspective.
