Here's a wonderfully intriguing photograph of a group of boys on a train.

'Unfortunately, I do not have any details about it, but it would be lovely to discover whether anyone recognises where it was taken or where they might have been travelling to.' - Catherine Lewis - Archivist🐉

''As an adult, it’s how I now approach almost everything. There was also a classroom poster I remember defining FAIL as “First Attempt in Learning.” I remember thinking it was slightly cheesy at the time. Annoyingly, it turns out it was right. Failure doesn’t disqualify you. It prepares you.'' 🐉

From mountain summits to filmmaking, the latest feature in our Diversity of Dragons series comes from Olivia Maiden (OD 2015). Her journey to date shows how curiosity and persistence beat perfection, as she shares how progress happens one small step at a time, and failure is just the first move.⛰️

''f there’s one thing I could offer to current Dragons, it’s that you don’t have to look like the obvious success story. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just must keep going. Reach for the sun. And don’t be surprised if it takes a few attempts!''

Something from the Archive...how about a bit of Science...👩‍🔬

In 1968, the school built three large laboratories in a building which became known as the 'Tin Can'. It was opened by distinguished Scientist Sir John Kendrew (OD 1930) and provided facilities which were extremely modern and spacious for the time. Can you recognise anyone from the photo?🧪

"It sounds insignificant, but that determination, that slight refusal to give up which was built on daily during my Dragon days, has probably been the foundation of everything I’ve done since. When someone says no, or that something won’t work, it tends to make me more certain that I need to try. "

The next feature in our hashtag series comes from India Wheeler (OD 2013) whose story is shaped by quiet determination and creativity.

🐉"It’s funny looking back at my time at the Dragon because, at the time, I was incredibly shy, but it was a place that quietly allowed everyone to flourish in their own way."
