This autumn, join us at St Ethelwold’s House in Abingdon OR at Summertown Arts, Oxford for a creative painting journey inspired by the changing colours, textures and atmosphere of the season.

Over 9 weeks, you’ll create your own collection of autumn-inspired artworks — from the rich colours of seasonal harvests to atmospheric skies, landscapes and layers of foliage.

No previous painting experience is needed! Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or looking to develop your skills, you’ll be gently guided through each project in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

✏️The best habit an artist can build!

Keeping a sketchbook is one of the simplest ways to grow as an artist. There have been times I fell off the practice but whenever I caught back to it, I noticed a significant growth in my creative thinking, problem solving, drawing and painting skills! The best benefit… I get faster at making art!

It’s a space to observe, explore new ideas, and strengthen your drawing skills through regular practice. Over time, those small moments of sketching build confidence, improve your observation, and inspire future paintings.

I encourage all of my students to keep a sketchbook…not because every page has to be perfect, but because every page is an opportunity to keep learning.

A little sketching, often, goes a long way. 🌿

🧺 Gathered Blooms: Painted, Cut, and Kept -- sketch, paint and collage garden flowers into a hanging basket, as if freshly picked
🪟 Garden Window: The View I Keep -- paint the view from a window, framed as its own little scene

Both are led gently, step by step, whether you're brand new to art or coming back to it after a break, and the historic house and gardens themselves are a huge part of the inspiration.
