Well done Carole, who re-soloed today!
OGC is a friendly, volunteer-run gliding club in Oxfordshire. We are a gliding club run by volunteers for volunteers. There's no paid staff at Weston.
That way we achieve a "real" club atmosphere and keep the cost down.
- As soon as you join you'll be able to get involved, too! We offer everything from ab initio and post-solo training to advanced cross-country tuition as well as a good social life. The Oxford Gliding Club is affiliated to the British Gliding Association and all our instructors are BGA-qualified.

The third and final winter training event wrapped up on Saturday, and what a fantastic turnout it was! It was brilliant to see the room packed with members of all ages from across the club.
Throughout the day we ran SPL sessions covering Placard limitations & V-speeds and Document checks, alongside a dyneema splicing workshop and a nostalgic look back at some classic club moments caught on film.
The evening rounded off perfectly with a particularly spicy chilli con carne 🌶️ and engaging talks on SPL principles of flight, mental health, and speeds to fly.
A huge, club-wide effort all round at OGC

Unfortunately, we couldn’t get airborne today at Oxford Gliding Club —but the day was far from wasted!
We made the most of it with productive SPL sessions, covering glider rigging and completing daily inspections. This was followed by a bit of fun (and skill-building!) with trailer reversing practice .
The day was rounded off perfectly with the second of our three training evenings this month, including SPL theory briefings on *circuit, approach and landing*, as well as *stalling and spinning*, plus club duty pilot refresher presentations.
Great, learning, teamwork, and making the most of every opportunity—whatever the weather! 👏

Saturday night marked the first of three training events taking place at the club this January. Fourteen of our students attended a full SPL winch launch briefing, and they were joined by many other club members for additional club-level training sessions. With two more events still to come this month, it’s a great start to a productive, training oriented January.
