Oksfordo universiteto Lietuvių draugijos nariai neseniai susitiko su Vilniaus Mokslo ir menų mokyklos „Taškius“ mokiniais, kurie lankėsi Oksforde norėdami susipažinti su studijų galimybėmis ateityje. Susitikimo metu buvo pasidalyta įžvalgomis apie studentų gyvenimą Oksforde, pristatytas priėmimo procesas ir aptartos finansavimo galimybės. Tai buvo prasmingas ir naudingas susitikimas, padedantis geriau suprasti studijų užsienyje galimybes, ir tikimės, kad po kelerių metų dalį jų vėl sutiksime Oksforde – jau kaip studentus!

Members of the Oxford University Lithuanian Society recently met with students from the Mokslo ir menų mokykla "Taškius" in Vilnius, who were visiting Oxford to explore future study opportunities. They shared insights into student life at Oxford, spoke about the admissions process, and discussed funding opportunities. It was a valuable exchange aimed at making studying abroad more accessible, and we hope to welcome some familiar faces back in a few years’ time as Oxford undergraduates.

H.E. Ambassador Radikaitė brings nearly three decades of diplomatic experience, including senior leadership roles within Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and key postings across Europe. Before beginning her current position, she served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Denmark and as non-resident Ambassador to Iceland. She has also served as Director of the European Union Department in Vilnius.

Her career has included work at the heart of EU decision-making in Brussels, postings in France and Sweden, and leadership on the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

At a time when security in the Baltic region remains central to Europe’s broader stability, we invite you to join us to hear directly from one of the region’s most experienced diplomatic voices.

Šlekys is exceptionally well placed to speak on Russia’s hybrid warfare in Europe. His work combines rigorous scholarly analysis with first-hand insight from within national defence institutions, offering a rare inside perspective on how hybrid threats are understood, managed, and responded to in practice.

Šlekys is teaching courses on War Studies and History of International Relations, while his additional research focuses include civil-military relations, military theory and history and historical sociology. Šlekys is known as one of the major public commentators on defense issues in Lithuania. Throughout his career, Šlekys has worked at the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense, has been a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, and has been a visiting research Fellow at the Changing Character of War Centre here at Oxford. Šlekys holds Masters degrees from Glasgow and Vilnius University and a PhD in Political Sciences from Vilnius University.

Today we commemorate January 13th - a day that reminds us of the courage, unity, and sacrifice of the people of Lithuania in defending freedom and the independence of their homeland. We honor all those who stood up in 1991 to defend democracy, truth, and the future of their state.

The OULS community warmly congratulates all Lithuanians on this meaningful day. May the memory of the Defenders of Freedom inspire us to nurture civic responsibility and care for our country, wherever we may be in the world.

On this day, we also wish strength to other nations that are currently fighting for their freedom. Together until victory!

Oksfordo ir Kembridžo universitetų Lietuvių bendruomenių pareiškimas dėl grėsmės LRT nepriklausomumui

Lapkričio 27 d. Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas žengė pirmą žingsnį, siekdamas supaprastinti LRT vadovo atleidimą. Taip pat iki 2029 m. užšaldė LRT biudžetą. Kembridžo ir Oksfordo universitetų Lietuvių bendruomenės reiškia nepritarimą šiems sprendimams, kurie kelia grėsmę visuomeninio transliuotojo nepriklausomumui ir mažina atsparumą politinei įtakai. Demokratiška valstybė privalo užtikrinti ir ginti žiniasklaidos laisvę – jeigu to padaryti nesugeba valdančioji dauguma, ši atsakomybė pereina piliečiams.

LRT – ne tik svarbi žiniasklaidos priemonė, bet ir Sausio 13-ąją iškovotos nepriklausomybės simbolis. Vykstant šios institucijos ardymui bei augant grėsmei iš Rytų, nevalia pamiršti didžiulės kainos, kurią Lietuva sumokėjo už savo laisvę. Mes, Oksfordo ir Kembridžo universitetų studentai, gerai suvokiame, jog galimybė studijuoti ir kurti laisvai reiškiant mintis nėra duotybė – mūsų tėvų ir senelių kartos sovietmečiu šios prabangos neturėjo. Labai norėtume, kad ją turėtų mūsų vaikai.

Kadangi daugelis mūsų pabaigę studijas planuoja grįžti į Lietuvą ir prisidėti prie jos kūrimo, mums labai svarbu, kad grįžtume į šalį, kurioje žodžio laisvė nėra supančiota ir demokratija nepatiria erozijos. Pastarųjų dienų įvykiai verčia nerimauti dėl tokios perspektyvos. Todėl, palaikydami protestuojančią Lietuvos kultūros bendruomenę, o ypač žurnalistus, jungiamės prie pilietinio judėjimo, siekiančio sustabdyti šiuo metu vykstančius nepriklausomą žiniasklaidą ardančius procesus.

🇪🇺 "The Role of Civil Resistance in Modern Warfare: Ukraine, and the Power of Grassroots Action" 🇺🇦

Join us for an inspiring conversation with Jonas Ohman, 🇱🇹 🇸🇪Lithuanian-Swedish journalist, documentary filmmaker, and founder of Blue/Yellow, a nonprofit organization supporting Ukraine since 2014.
Over the course of the war in Ukraine, Blue/Yellow has raised over €100 million to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Jonas will share his experiences in civil resistance, grassroots mobilization, and advocating for Ukraine’s sovereignty, drawing on his work across the Baltic region and beyond. He will also share his insights from Ukraine, where he frequently travels to deliver support, meet Ukrainian officials, and monitor the situation on the front lines. In 2022, he and Blue/Yellow were awarded the European Citizen’s Prize by the European Parliament for their outstanding contributions.
